why not set a speed limit on said lake?

because the lack of enforcement thats already in place proves that a set speed limit would go ignored.

its not really about just speed. its about speed and how close these riders come to other people. for instance, if the set speed is, say, 50 MPH.... it wont do any good in preventing stupidity when a coucher is heading straight toward you, with no sign of turning one way or the other, at 45mph... or when he/she splashes the beachful of kids and skis at 30mph.

i dont have the answers either. im just trying to make our spot a better, safer, less idiotic and more fun spot to ride.

the fact that i find most couchers to be morons is irrelevant......

what happens when they ride like jackasses anyway? its going to happen. then you have to single them out, anyway, and be the "bad guy".

and who is going to want to walk around to every moron and hand out love notes as theyre backing their couches down the ramp? sounds kinda time-consuming and futile to me.. but, then, think of the gas money youll save by walking and not riding.

It's a bad idea to begin with...the only way it would work without confrontation is to treat them all equally. If you single someone out, you WILL start a fight sooner or later. Choose your battles...

well, what the hell else do you want? the laws are already there. print them up and hand them out if thats what you want to do. more power to you. it might just be easier to hand out the safe boating guides that FWC already has printed up.

that being said dont u think it would be time better spent to lobby for better law enforcement and get the couchers who give a crap to support that? then u would be backed by not only all of the standup riders and couch riders who care.......... but also the people who work thee and the people who dont even ride that enjoy the use of the lake

well its a nice idea but the people who mostly violate rules dont really care that the are not in compliance. if you see someone running their couch though the no wake zone at 40 mph and say something to them, for the most part they shrug it off and keep on. also its really not my responcibillty to tell other people how to conduct their lives. there are too many rules as it is.................imo i dont think you should be required to wear a helment on a motorcycle and the seatbelt law is something else i wish was gone. these are personal responcibilities. not the man telling me what i need to do to be safe...................we got to let the dumb and weak move to the outer edges of the heard.

I agree. Sorry Saki, but I have tried for two years to educate both the idiotic and the clueless.

the lake is ONLY used for jetskis. its not there for anybody else to enjoy.... hence its name - "jetski lake". lobbying for the popo to be there? i dont think so. its too small a body of water to have to keep an officer there all day. besides, law enforcement only means cops. we can get along just fine without the cops. funny thing is that the local target range is in the park right next to the jetski lake and its where ALL of the cops in broward county train. theres always cops.... passing by. a very simple solution is to have a standup section and a couch section. im not sure why this is such a horrible idea. its no worse than the situation thats out there now. i even volunteered my time and my COUCH to help set up the divider.

ill agree with the rule enforcement. it absolutely needs to be there.

but, with lobbying for rule enforcement, im, again, depending on someone else to do whats right.

with the physical separation of the couches and the standups, all that i need is a "yes" from the park manager and i can personally take care of the rest.

will all the couchers ALWAYS maintain the boundaries? of course not. with all
the standuppers? probably not either.

maybe something we can add to edwins list of not riding like an idiot is to "OBEY THE BOUYS". wait... i think thats already a law.

if youre talking about bearing right when theres an oncoming boat, yes. it is already a written navigational rule.

you bear right unless that it is clear, to both vessel operators, that both operators can plainly see the intended directions of eachother.

Thats cool,i understand what your saiding but where i ride theres a lot of people that dont know what they are doing so yes if they dont pass i whould say hey you shouldnt be on the water unless you know the rules.here you can take the test on the internet with the book at hand so everyine passes.

handing someone a rule book would constitute more of a "f u" than the park sectioning off one area. if the park sections an area off for standuppers, what makes you think a coucher would come up to me and say "f u"??
