One way valve vs. bilge

i run a scupper with no bilge! call me crazy, yes it leaks, but dont sit for more than you have to, if your talking to someone on the lake or something, hold it shut, ive never come close to sinking, even swimming about 100 yards to get to my ski.

wait until your ski is upside down 100 yards away.

I run a scupper and a 1100gph Rulemate bilge. My old scupper never ever ever leaked, but this new one leaks like crazy. I probably have to do some work to it...

I like the water out really fast! and this system is pretty fool proof. When I ride big surf, I just plug the scupper (takes 2 seconds). Every other day, it is great to have.

I've found 10 yards to be enough.

I was shocked to see slutty's ski sink so fast a couple of years ago. he had an ill fitting a/m hood and a scupper. as soon as the ski hit the water (upside down) it started sinking quickly. it looked like any other bail in waist to chest deep water but the ski sunk like a rock. nick didn't even have to swim to get to it and by the time he got to it, it sank.

People don't realize how much faster the air inside the hull gets displaced by water when there is a scupper for the air to escape through. The trickling in of water through a leaky scupper is not the big problem.

Not to scare people, cause I still like the scupper, but one time on a pretty good size bail, I heard a wooshing and clicking sound as my ski sank. I got there quickly and got it flipped over, but that was the first time I thought about the air displacement issue. If I had a regular pole etc, it would have been better. I have actually thought about installing foam in my pole, but just put some in my pancake foothold instead. If you remove some foam, from a stock hood, pole, etc. you may be a lot worse. Like I said before, it's a love/hate for me, just don't let go!
