there is a newer attwood design too its called the tsunami or somthing? they are a little bit taller but still clear the coupler cover. you push a tab and twist to release from the basket

That's what I have been using for two years now. I think they hold up better than the old design.
The tab thing isn't working for me, though. To release the pump, the tab has to be pushed below the bottom of the basket. I have my pumps glued down to the hull with 5200, so the tab cannot physically get lower.

i rode 6 miles in the open ocean to ride Todos Santos. rode 1 tank and was waiting to fill up, my bilges broke so i thought id be ok with my sinker ugghhcough i mean scupper.....

my ski sank from sitting there and i had to tie the sunk ski up to darrin andersons ski on the tray and have him ride to get the water out.....than it sank again.....re-do..... got towed 6 miles back thanks to jerry jones...... after everyone rode a second tank....... while i was in a spring suit and got hypothermia.

that is true. i jb welded mine to the hull but they come apart at the top too i believe there is a tab up there too. either way it wont break like that crappy rule basket

Don't know why Rule insists decade after decade to continue with that crappy (blue) strainer. However they have a black plastic strainer available which they tout as "gas resistant". It's a lot better plastic, I have never broken one! It's available as a separate part or as a pump assy. Sadly stores just stock the crappy, blue one.

Running 2 rule 500's with blue bottom, bend a piece of very thin aluminum and screwed it to driveshaft screws, pump strainers riveted on the aluminum plate, never moved , never broke cant get any lower.

Scupper with homedepot one way...

Never any problems, upside down, sideways, everything

I take Matt's advise any day before installing anything

>>> HOODSEAL <<< if you have a gocam stick it in your engine duct tape a flash light in and you will be suprised where you see water coming in...

This is brilliant!

As far as the scupper/ one way/ bilge debate goes I run a scupper and bilges to get the water out fast because i mostly just do flatwater freestyle, and compete a few times a year and it works for me. If I didnt do contests i wouldnt have a scupper.

Or just ride around!!!! Float for a minute. Ride around, Float, Ride around. If you have a single scupper you can float behind and hold the flap shut. I use to do that on my old SJ with the 24/7 scupper. Just hold it closed. I have dual wammers and dont have that option.

That's if you are right by the ski. I'd hate to be swimming as fast as I can towards my ski while it slowly sinks because the scupper flap is open. Nope, no scuppers for me: one-way all the way - it has a spring to close it tight, and that works in any orientation.

Man i am getting nervous about scuppers now. I bought a ski with a scupper tube and going to get one, but now i am thinking about getting rid of it. I ride flat water and the occasional wave day. I have two pumps, was just going to run one, but have the option to run two. My dilemma is that i could be riding with the boys then come back in to the launch, or tooling around a boat all day and the ski would be in the water the whole time. So my question is how often do these things leak while sitting in the water?

Always!! My ski floats all day too, which is why I chose a one way - it has a spring loaded valve that is positively pushed closed when there is no water on the inside forcing it open.

I have dual scuppers and dual 500 gpm bilges. The scuppers leak constantly and if I did not have the bilges who knows how long the boat would float. I have to keep it on a stand in the water to prevent having to run the bilges the entire day at the lake. In the surf, I just gamble and try not to let go of the ski so it does not get upside down. However, no issues getting water out quickly while riding.

Scuppers are prone to leaking as already discussed here.

However that doesn't make all one way valves junk. The Versiplug is basically the same thing as a "one way valve" however they don't leak and aren't really prone to leaking.

I personally will be running a Versiplug MAX on my SJ with the Total loss setup. I will also have a single RULE 500 as backup but don't really want to be running the battery down.

On my other RN that has the stock charging system, I will simply be running one rule 500. I would run a versiplug on it as well, but really don't feel like installing the tube in it. The other ski already had a scupper tube in it(that the previous owner blocked off due to his hatred for scuppers)

The truth is that people that hate scuppers/oneway valves had issues with theirs.
Those who love scuppers/oneway valves had none.

Maybe I was lucky with my setup or I just installed it correctly as I have absolutely no water leaking issues. No water sloshing around just waiting to get sucked into the carbs or constantly spraying electrical connections and cleaning the motor is a breeze.
Don't even run pumps any more as I hate the way they clutter the bilge. To me there's nothing that ruins a ski as much as a hole drilled in the side for the bilge outlet.

Some argue that scuppers sink boats when they get away in the surf. That might be true but a simple solution is to not let go. Ever wonder why so many boats with AM poles end up floating upside down ?
I wonder if their sheer weight and lack of flotation has anything to do with it ?

Damn i think that one way valves work for what i intend to do. But i already have a scupper tube, should i look into a versi-plug. I have done some research on them and it seems they would work great as long as they seal properly.

I just installed a versiplug max in my ski this winter. I still have one 500 gph bilge hooked up and the stock siphon hooked up as well.

Ill let you know how it works in a month or so when i hit the water again.
