Off Idle Hit - Any Other Tips?

Finally got my RN hitting fairly well off idle (for knee high waves, reentries, etc.), especially when riding up to a small wave, dropping throttle to see how it breaks, then nailing it.:woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

Thanks to all here for the jetting help, encouragement, etc.:cool2:

So far the final elements of success have been jetting as best as possible as described at Factory pipe, Mikuni manual, Group K, Waxhead, Paul, etc.:hail: :hail: :hail: then switching to a lower popoff/leaner pilot.

Also, playing with the B-Pipe water screws. On my ski a 1/32 turn either way from nominal noticeably softens the hit.:aargh4:

Now, what else can be done to improve off idle hit on pump gas w/out going big bore, stroker, Lamey, TL, etc? My setup is fairly typical - 2nd over 701, RIVA/Magoo ported, ADA head w/33cc domes, limited B-Pipe, bored nozzle, freestyle cone, Carbon Tech LT reeds (sealing perfectly), Impros repitched & cutback Solas X prop (NOT a concord), rejetted 38 OEM carbs, stock FAs w/1 screen each, MSD enhancer, 3 degrees static advance.

Yes, I know I can cut the pump stuffer out, but I kinda like the great rough water hookup.

I've searched & searched. Is a Skat freestyle prop all I have left to do? Is water injection good for off idle hit? Other ideas? TIA! :)

i know you already have the pump cone and it may sound a little stupid from a couch rider but what about something like the WET wolf AAT cone with the adjustability of the different length cones and shuttles.... jsut a thought

You could send the complete 'B' exhaust system to us (X-metalworks/Team Scream) for a mod upgrade...Manifold boring, headpipe porting and stinger resizing.
And get a real CDI like Advent or Wax Racing, or go MSD-TL for the real step up to fast acceleration and off idle hit!

I would go with the above. Team Scream and x metal would be the way to go if you want off Idle hit. 2nd in world finals was powered by team scream.

OK, these see like good ideas. I've also thought about an AM lightweight flywheel. Didn't RIVA have some RADs in stock now?

In order of most bang for the buck (and salt water reliability), which should I do first? Flywheel, pipe mods, ignition?:thinkerg:

First, Advent CDI
Second, pipe mods,
Forget about aftermarket flywheel, use a stock 62T one, lighten if you want but not needed, Now that you have a great timing curve, now I can cut up some custom domes for more compression (200 lbs on pump). The only question I have is the porting? You say Riva/Paul? Did Paul do it after Riva?
I have seen many Riva cylinders overported for freestyle motors, with that in mind sometimes the next guy can't do much more with it...

Yes, Paul massaged it after RIVA. He described the RIVA work as a mild race porting. I measured the distance down from the top of the cylinder to the top of the exhaust & it was raised about 1.2mm from stock. So yeah, Paul couldn't put metal back on...

So I guess I'll have to look for an Advent. Any models/years/etc. to avoid?

Well I hate to say it...but due to Greg's (Advent) past problems with his boxes, I only would use a new one, I have the newest ones out as of 5-6 weeks ago and no starting problems anymore.

Nice Wax. BTW, what's a powerjet? Water injection?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your ignition requires a RAD flywheel?

If not, how does it compare to an Advent? How's reliability in salt water?

My ignition runs the stock flywheel etc
its a direct bolt in replcement
the power jet is a switchable power supply basically
so you can put your water injection on this or you could put a pv if you had a electrical oppereated pv
or a power jet for a carb

Salt water is not an issue its in a sealed box after all

The important thing with all digital ignitions is sheilding
you must run resitor caps and plugs

So can the Inferno operate several water injection solenoids like the Jetworks, at different programmable RPM and pulsewidth? That would be very sweet.

You are bringing one to Daytona right? Maybe I could get lucky w/the goodie raffle....:sneaky:

good prop wax? ... the X-prop? I don't think many would suggest this as a great "off idle hit" kind of prop. I'm not denying it is good (for top speed and hookup), but probably not for what he is looking for. Its blade and hub design are probably loading the motor pretty hard.

I say go for the 13/16 cut-back concord from Impros.

it doesnt change the pulse width
it can turn it off and on twice in one rpm sweep
i use jets to regulate the water in my skis not pulse

But i have found with good advance you can do away with water injection anyway
It hits way harder than water injection does

Other people may find better results

if you read the first post it says its a repitched prop by impros so i am guessing it was repitched for freestyle
i agree its not the very best prop
but its not the first in the order i would change

yes i will bring some infernos to daytona
but i am not sure about giving them away i may bring a demo one for some one to try in there boat
I have been working on a killer curve for a b-pipe
