Well my back never recovered from the Fall ride. It actually got worse and worse. The finally straw was when I hit the ground Friday when my legs gave out. So to the ER we rolled. Turns out I have a herniation and extrusion between L5 and S1. The last spot before your pelvic bone. Not the best place to lose your natural shock absorber.

So its surgery on Monday or Tuesday morning and a weekend in the hospital on muscle relaxers and morphine. Yeah!

So I'll be out of commission until the spring. And we'll see how much riding I get after that. But definitely won't involve the 5-7ft rollers we had this year. So the Carnage keeps rolling. Good times!

Dang Tim, I hate to hear that. Time to sell that sit down & get a superjet. Legs make mucher better shock absorbers than your spine. And superjets are a LOT lighter than the "pig":bigok:

Seriously...speedy recover to you. I feel your pain.

Yipes. My back has been bothering me too lately, but it's not so bad that I need surgery yet. Was going under the knife your only option? Be careful with any kind of back surgery- I have seen many "hit or miss"....you could be in worse pain when it's over. Good luck though- hope you have a quick recovery.

I'm glad somebody else said it first so I'm not the only "bad guy", but I would consider every other option before letting them cut on your back. I have heard the same hoorror stories like jetaddict has described. Best of luck, by all means get well soon.

Surgery is always a FINAL option- especially when it comes to back injuries. I sure hope he DID get other opinions- otherwise it's a bad decision, IMO. The one guy I known has had 3 back surgeries in the past 5 years- he injured his in a car wreck- and he is almost completely dependent on Oxys and, recently, morphine tabs. Needless to say he is on the road to addicition- it's sad seeing someone's personality change due to that. And all because of his back surgeries.
Chriopractors, physical therapy and inversion tables can work wonders.
I just don't want to see someone go under the knife so hastily based on one doctor's desire to make $$.

Its a total blow-out on that disk. Its not a full fusion or anything like that. But I will need it at some point. This will be a snip of the petruding tissue and a fix on the cartelige tear. Just never got better then it got horrible. The loose tissue rubs the nerves and they just need to clear some area for the nerves to ease things up.

Beleive me. Surgery is not my first option and I've battled this for 11 yrs already. Done all the therapy and everything else.

I never saw him sit that much when he rode.

I am the least sitting sit down on sit down person. hahaha. I did lots of flying and some large spillage. At least it was fun. It was pretty cool to get 800lbs 10-12 ft off the topside. But everything has its price.

I'll still be there to drink and party. :fing02: Just no more flying. Hey Mick, know anyone that wants to buy the stand you built?

Sorry to hear about your Back Tim. Surgery reallly sucks. I had surgery on my nose last Feb and I wish I had not. Scar tissue bothers me every day.

Keep the stand you will need it again one day.

Had surgery yesterday. The removed 40% of the disk that was damaged. Needless to say, my riding will be limited to very little. From my pelvic bone going up, I now have a disk with 60%, and the two above it are degenerated to a very unstable state. When the doctor asked what my hobbies were and I said jetskiing, well the look on his face wasn't pleasant. :grumpy: Bummer. We'll have to see how limited I am with daily activities before I decide on my jetskiing future.

Sounds like you have some recovery/rehab time ahead of you. But you've got all winter, so take advantage of it & see how you do. If you're not ready for riding in March, that will just leave more time for you to hang on the beach & eat worms:bigok:

Glad to hear the surgery went well. Make sure you rehab like crazy- don't slack. Make sure you work your abdominals also- they help stabilize the spine more than most people think. If you have strong abs and work your lower back, you may be able to ride by next season and could even be jumping small waves by then too without a lot of pain. Good luck man, and keep us posted.

Sorry to hear of the surgery, yet glad it went well. Take it easy except for the rehab...then push yourself. We'll see you in the spring. Hey, maybe you can learn ALL the ins and outs of these machines, then you can work on the broken ones and I will ride some!
