You really should go back to XP on that machine. 7 is going to have issues in that Beta form.

I can copy and mail you the Dell restore CD/DVD of your choice. Home or Pro with SP2 or 3. Or even Media Center but I never liked that one.

It is a Dell factory restore so it will not ask for a key. I could get it out today I'm sure.

Looking back on this all of your problems (losing network....r-drive not working) is probably because of the 7 beta.

Your machine will scream again with XP tweaked on a new drive.

I've been running Windows 7 on my desktop for 6-8 weeks. I like it for the most part.

I did install 7 on my laptop but only so the drive would be formatted. With the ide to usb adapter my desktop wouldn't recognize the new unformatted HDD to try to restore the old drive info.

Its not that its not good...its just wasn't really done when you dloaded that .iso beta version.

Man your really are not gonna beat XP performance/reliabilty/stability on your machines.

The full version of 7 Ultimate is looking very very appealing though....so its good that you are messing with it....

I plan on putting xp back on the laptop right away. I'm not even using it with 7 on it.

I have the latest build of 7 ultimate on my Desktop now. It has some cool features. I've had a hell of a time getting most drivers to work and I have BSOD once a week or so.

The best part of Windows 7 is that it's fast.

Yea its nice but it has some stuff I as a control freak am not fond of. I like total control of the os and its features and I am still tinkering...

This has gotten nice and irritating. I had an illegal OEM xp install on the laptop because I couldn't get a copy to use my legal software key to work with. MS shut me down for not having a genuine product. I finally got my hands on a regular xp install disk and while I'm installing the left "mouse" button finally stoped working, It's been on its way out for the last week or 2.

Do I replace it, start using a regular mouse or give in and toss the lap top in the pool?

How did I get here?

It doesn't have a touch feature?

Laptop mice are normally inexpensive and easy to replace. I'd suggest getting something like this:

Yea get a nice track ball mouse and look for a parts machine over time on Ebay.

I have genuine Dell restore CD's and DVD's...they don't ask for a key. Ya want me to mail you one and be done with this.

Home or Pro? Hell I could just copy and send a few...plus some critical install files I use. You would just need drivers from Dells site.

Oh and bootleg XP has to be pretty highly tweaked and locked down in order for it not to get virated and/or microsofted.

I'm kinda shocked you were not using a plug in mouse already.....

I use these on every machine.

ok... new hard drive, legal xp, and a mouse later and my laptop is smoking fast.

I also replaced the broken frame for the monitor, hinges and monitor bezel (basically everything but the LCD) so it looks good too.

Thanks guys!
