This is my first time ever using 1208 and 1708 biaxial fiberglass, and this will be the last time I ever use it again! It dosent soak in resin very well and it's very airy. I will stick with plain weave and twill from know on! The 1708 will be ok for building up the tray, and that's about it. And I most likely won't use the 1208 at all.

Ski is looking good man! I think yours is a few inches longer on the nose then mine, I had to cut the crap out of the rocker kit to get it to fit right lol. Also the 4 inch chop made mine ride pretty nose high even with a stock ride plate so if your planing on cutting the plate flush id move your footholds decently far forward. If ya want we can meet up some time and you can try out my ski, to get a feel for the chop and rocker. Im sure Quinc will be down to ride he loves my ski more then I do lol

Thanks man! I appreciate the tips! I was wondering if I should move the footholds forward or not. The pics of what I cut off, are of what I cut off at first. I wound up cutting it back a few inches more all around to get the nose to fit right. I'm always down to ride. Where do you guys ride at? I'd love to see how the nose rocker and rear chop feel on the water.

Sweet! We are close. I normally ride at miller, and by swabbies. Sometimes I'll give Folsom a try if the river has too much crud floating around.

Does your biaxial fabric have mat stitched in? Most biax with mat is not intended for use with epoxy.

It dose have a layer of 3/4 ounce mat on one side. 1708 and 1208 is what most people use and I can't understand why. This stuff sucks and I'll never buy it again! I will stick to my 2x2 twills for most of the project, and heavy 18 ounce woven for fast build ups like for the tray. Out of curiosity, why would biaxles with mat not be good for epoxy? I've never heard this at all in my 13 years of composites experience.
Just curious...
The bonding agent within the mat is not dissolved by epoxy as it is by the styrene in resins such as polyester. This causes the mat not to soak up resin making air bubbles and poor wet out. This is why I have always been confused as to why everyone uses it with epoxy on their skis. I'd be interested in hearing what others who have used it have to say on the topic.

I'm very curious to hear opinions also. In doing a quick search I found this. Us composites is where I bought my 1708 and 1208 and right at the top of the page it says it's compatible with epoxy resin.
Interesting, like I said most mat contains binder but I have heard of mat without binder.
