My planned BR/backflip weekend killed early

I spent this last week at my family's lake house in MI. Weather was awesome and I planned on focusing on br's and backflips off the boat wake. Took my ski off the trailer and rode it to the dock.....all was well. Did a couple of tricks for my nephews and then the ski started handling like crap and would not go up on plane..............I lost my carbon 24/7 ride plate in the middle of the lake, I was not even there 20 minutes :banghead: You would be surprised how crappy a ski hanldles w/o a plate on it :haha: I guess the 5 hour drive up wiggles some bolts loose :dunno:

Needless to say I did not make any progress on the BR's and Backflips.............guess I have to step it up a notch the next couple of weeks :cheer:

Still a fun week :biggthumpup:

I lost a plate on a 550 way back in the day. It handled like crapola too.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Those things are'nt cheap:banghead:

Two bolts were still on so I think that two fell out an the others stayed in place as the plate ripped off............Luckily i bought the plate used for $50, so it was not as big of a loss. But still that was a sweet plate.

I always use a thin strip of red down the bolt for intake and plate...I'd rather have a little bit harder time breaking the bolt loose then losing it for good.

Thanks, but I have a cut down pro-tec plate I am going to use for the time being. I was only there for the week and probably could have driven somewhere to get one but did not have internet access to look anyone up :frown:

To add insult to injury I also slammed my Miss Budwiser Nitro RC boat into our diving dock at 30mph :biggthumpup: Creamed that as well :arms: :haha: Expensive week :biggrin:

silicone on the bolts and ride plate is the best way to protect your ride plate from ever coming off. The silicone also helps in preventing corrosion and water from entering the bolt inserts. I try to avoid lock tight there because combine with some corrosion often ruins the threads.

I usually silicone the plate on to get rid of that seem between the plate and the hull but I made several pump nozzle adjustments a couple of days prior and never got around to doing it again. OOpps. Just ordered a Waterdawg Plate from Jeff so I guarentee I will be siliconing that one in place.......and adding that old protec one to my tool box just in case :biggrin: You live and learn.

I have my protec plate, I'm good :biggthumpup: I like waterdawg stuff but it does come with a wait..........custom stuff always does. I'll post pics when I get it.

I've never needed to actually fasten the plate w/silicone, but you're right about loctite making some wierd corrosion. Silicone works really well as a thread lock for rideplate/grate screws.:biggthumpup:
