So a little back story here, last summer in August I bought a new laptop that came preloaded with Windows 10 Home. I've somewhat looked into it in the past and found it to be very annoying on all levels so I ditched it and went back to what I was running. About a couple of years had passed and they made some changes for the better which the new lappy had with its preloaded version. It was better but still highly annoying and incredibly intrusive on the privacy rights. I made it a point that this was not going to be used for anything beyond very basic web use functions because I don't trust MS at all anymore. Not since they forced that abomination of an OS Windows 8 onto the masses. A mobile OS has no place on a dedicated desktop environment. Anyway, I have tried everything from the script mods to added software to stop the telemetry, anything I could to get it to be more secure and not update without my decision. In the end none of it worked. I spoke to a shop tech about it and he agreed along with describing many of the same issues. Well, last week I was watching something on Netflix when that lost cause of an OS decided to update...against the preset active hours I set up so it wouldn't. I noticed the movie started lagging and buffering heavily, then tried to close the window to find the entire system was the same. After the update had completed the system was not at all the same. Constantly super slow, 3-4 minute boot up times and sometimes hangups during the boot. I knew something wasn't right so I right away started backing up files. 2 days later the system wouldn't boot, just a continuous loop of disk repair attempts...in fact one attempt lasted 16 hours then just shut down on its own. No log entries, no reports, just reboot later to a repair session again.
That was enough, it was time I used a live session of Linux Mint to back up and wipe my remaining files from the drive over to an external. Once completed, I then tried to access the Windows folders. I watched the system get hung up on trying to read those folders so I left it alone for the day while I went to work hoping it would eventually get to my desktop where I could wipe it clean and check for anything I missed during the first backup. After 9 hours of trying to load a display of the files it failed. I now realized that Windows 10 had just written off my drive. I believe that due to the excessive amount of disk usage it places on the system under normal circumstances, while watching a flick and it automatically updating at the same time, it must have destroyed that track section of the hard drive to an unreadable state through perhaps a read write burn out. I could not access any portion of the Windows file system even though I had been able to before. Fortunately the comp has a one year warranty on it, but after that it has pushed its limit with me. I am leaving that garbage abortion of an OS behind for good and going on to a Linux variant called Feren OS. It is very fast, substantially faster than Windows 10 and 7 for that matter since I have been testing it on both, and it does not hog the system resources. I just finished running a live session of the newest release and I have to say I am now totally sold on it. I just wanted to put this little posting up for anyone looking to get away from that dreaded MS spyware and looking for an easy to use, easy to adapt to, and fun OS to run. Give Feren OS a shot, you just might like it. Your computer certainly will love all the new freed up resources and the CPU will run cooler too since Feren, or Linux in general do not demand constant throttle cycles and telemetry processes to send anywhere. Your comp will be MUCH more secure too, this is one of the key points well known about the Linux environment. I hope this offers some insight to even just one person, Windows 10 is a hardware killer and a free spyware program. If you can get rid of it, even to go back to 7, then do it. Just remember security support for 7 ends January 01, 2020. If you can do it, ditch MicroSpy ASAP! There we have it folks, this is me story of de day. Thankya kindly for your time and I hope it helped you start thinking about your computing situation with a grain of salt, later peeps
