Super Jet Mid Shaft assembly question

The last time I had my mid shaft rebuilt, even with the engine pushed back as far as possible, there was about a 3/8" gap between the couplers. I know this should be more like 1/8". I'm pretty sure the guy who rebuilt it for me, who is mainly an MX mechanic, just assembled the thing with the shaft a little to far back, being that he doesn't do it too often. I am assuming that during assembly, its measured where I marked it in the picture, Anyone know what is the correct distance that this should be?

I would be happy with a 1/4 gap but mine was a solid 3/8 maybe even a half??? Never had a problem with it but I'd rather it be done right. Thanks for the input every one!
