Make this pole pretty

This thing has some chipped up paint on it still and looks like it'd be a beotch to clean up the underside. Anyways, what are my options for making this thing pretty again?
  1. I've read about polishing it but I'm really not the patient type and don't want something high maintenance.
  2. Powdercoat - what should I expect to spend including prep?
  3. Paint - I'm painting the ski w/laquer (sound right?) primer and Imron ss - how will this hold up on Al?
  4. Other options?

I would think you could get that powder coated for around $100 or less. We used to send wheels from a motorcycle shop where I worked, and I think they were about $150.

I wonder how it would hold up?

or...nice can of metal primer and some flat black and a little sand paper would do the trick for about $10 total...however I realize you might not be as ghetto as me. Remember I fixed my scupper with a racquet ball.

I am but she's not  . I was lucky to get away with Rustoleum appliance paint on the bottom hull. Why do you suggest flat? This'll be white, btw...

Oh and I got a phone estimate @ $120 including prep around the corner. That's a lot of money for this old pole...

flat hides dents/scratches much better than gloss. a comprimise is satin or semi-gloss to have some hiding ability with some shine to it.

Okay she's on board with the $10 solution. She's getting a fresh paintjob so I think some gloss is going to be the way to go but I can always resand/paint for another $10 if it doesn't turn out good. I see what you mean about flat hiding dents and blending patch jobs better. I'll see what I can do... Thanks!

I just used some of that appliance epoxy also, on the bottom of the hull also. That stuff is great and looks like it will be pretty tough...

What are you going to use for the pole?

Just dropped off the pole at the powder coaters. $65 for white. Includes sandblasting/prep. An hour or two of my own time is worth more than that here at the start of the season.

Jerry, not using clear on the bottom if that's what you mean? I already scratched it up a bit by flipping it back on the stand too soon but just another squirt and you'd never know :cool2:

Derek (Waveblaster069) painted clear over his appliance epoxy. It looked great before he sprayed it. He said the clear destroyed the paint. It bubbled and cracked, and he has to sand it all down now.

THAT is good to know.

the clear must have been incompatible.

Ill test some later this week with clear laquer over it.

the appliance stuff gets harder for a few days, it takes a while to fully cure.
