mag pump

so my dad was reading a watercraft mag and saw the mag pumps in there and wants to get one for my superjet, he wants to get one new so he is willing to pay.

i was just wondering if it would be a good move or not sense my ski is mostly for freestyle freeride??

or if i should just get him to spend the money on a tbm flywheel and better cylinder porting or maybe even a lowered hood??

my setup should be in my sig

I'd spend the money on a Lamey cylinder and stroker crank first. The mag is nice, but it won't give you as big an improvement for the money spent.

No mag.

Do:
Porting for sure
Carbs??? (what kind of 44s if there oem they are junk and holding you back)
TBM flywheel

You could spend
porting 400
mikuni carbs 500
flywheel 450

and be at the price of the mag.

A Magnum Pump is primarily a race inspired mod. The pump is designed so that it takes less water to fill the pump cavity and therefore delivers constant thrust in the churned up water on the race course. As a side note many surfriders (like myself) like them also because they work exceptionally well in the churned up water of the surf impact zone. On the down size Mag pumps are heavier than the stock pump and so most Flat water free stylers stay away for the wieght issues. You can also buy a pump insert which does primarily the same thing for around $300, as a cheap alternative. I can't remember who makes them though, someone on here will though.

I really like my Skat-trak mag pumps. I'm more of racer & surf rider and mag pumps help the way I ride. They put the power to the water. I hate sliding out

I like the pump insert with a skat c75+ impeller. All the hookup with half the weight and price.

you dont have enough engine (looking at your sig) to justify one......

spend the money on an aftermarket cylinder first........I recommend X-scream!

good to see surf riders who have actually tried one posting positive results.its seems to me for surf riders, especially the ones that have a higher hp motor and ride IN the wave, reintry and the like would love a mag pump

I have had my mag pump for two + years. For me, it was one of the best improvements. I can drive right through the whitewater and no bobbing up and down waiting for it to hook up after jumping. I seem to be able to ride a lot longer without getting tired, too. I think because I am not fighting with the ski to get me back on plane. Also, you are not putting a wear ring in the pump once a year. Mag pump is all positives, but there are some other mods that are a better bang for the buck if you are just starting out.

Mag pump is the way to go. TBM or R&D pump insert is better than nothing , but does not even come close to being as good as a mag pump. Its like comparing an aluminum prop to a stainless impros hooker. Ive run them all and know. If the mag pump is loading down your motor , its because you either have to tall a pitch or to small a nozzle or both. Or you are so used to cavitation that you dont know what hookup is. What works for racing also works for accelerating through rough ocean and up the face of a wave.
