Super Jet Mag Pump questions.

I have a few questions regarding mag pumps.

I have a SN Superjet, with a D cut ride plate, XR tech scoop grate, poor mans B pipe, and an impeller that I have no idea what pitch it is.

My engine is a stock 61x/61x 701.

1) what size pump would be recommended? (I plan on upgrading to a JM 781 eventually)

2) would a mag pump be too much for the setup that I have now?

3) what pump is everyone recommending?

4) what gains/losses should I expect?

Not sure if it matters, but I will be moving to an AM hull in a few months.
Probably a BOB or a freak, so if there are any known problems with mag pumps and these hulls I would like to know.

Thanks in advanced.

You would want a 144, you will notice better hookup kinda like street tires to slicks, No idea what impeller to recommend, Best to call Dave @ Impros

I really never tested it on a BB set-up, Just did a back to back test with a dasa 950 and it was a nice gain, but for the price i would expect you would see a bigger gain with TL

I think you will feel the gain more in surf and white water, than if you are only riding flat water.
A friend of mine put a solas 144mag in his 09 SJ with b pipe, EPIC ignition in. he didnt feel a real diffrence. (he only rode it in flat water)
Another friend on a 96 SJ with MSD enhancer b pipe, hooker 9/15 prop allso dropped a 144 solad mag, said he clearly could feel it (be he was riding ocean)

If your interested in a BOB then maybe give the guys over at The Ski Clinic a call and see what they have to say. I know they test a lot of different set ups with various engine and pump combos. They should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Thanks for all the info.
I just might give the ski clinic a call.

As for now I might just leave the mag pump alone and spend it on something else.

Now I just need to figure out what to get next.

144mm

No

Solas is the most bang for the buck in the 144mm size.

4) what gains/losses should I expect?
better hookup in all conditions, faster recovery when pump reenters the water, no losses

They work just fine in any stock or a/m hull. Even more important the lighter the hull.

Thanks in advanced.

Hooker 9/15 is the best with your existing setup for freestyle. This impeller will also be perfect with the solas pump.
When you upgrade to BB motor, then you will want the hooker 10/16.

Just know that the pump is all about traction in the water, not necessarily "gains". Jetmaniac gave you solid advice. The choice between the two is yours to make.

I really appreciate all the info JM.
Do you recommend that I go ahead and get a mag pump or just wait until I get the BB?

As noted by others above, it is a judgement call.

What do you know about your existing impeller? aluminum oem or SS? How old/worn from use? Big hub or small?

You will see improvements from a better impeller/pump right away.

go hooker and mag pump I did it inmy square and really liked it, but I traded my mag pump for parts I needed to fix my ski and build new motor,as soon as I come up with the cash again I will be getting another solas

JM is asking that most likely because if there is a gap you are losing power. If there is a gap you will want a new wear ring when you get the pump and prop.
