GASKETS FOR CHAMP BRAP!
My kid has a old PC that has a AMD 1 gig chip, 256 meg of ram that is running Windows 2000.
I installed the latest version of DirectX and now its screwing with pretty much all the videos that we watch. Like youtube, etc.
I then went and got a old version(directx8) to try and put it back the way it was, but it doesn't work. I then did some reading and found out that you cant go backwards with the versions of DirectX.
I also read about some programs you can buy that will do it for you and also started reading how to do it yourself, but it just got to technically weird for my brain.

Any suggestions?
I'll trade technical support for some gaskets!!

There are codecs missing or have been replaced, you can find several bulk codec downloads on the internet.

The videos will be green or have no sound or will not play at all.

Also you can pickup a new full version of XP professional for $ 50 on ebay its well worth the money Win 2000 is the worst ....just my 0.2

No error messages.
You can watch say maybe 60% of all videos like on youtube, but some just only play for a couple seconds and the all you can hear is the sound for the rest of the vid. Then if you advance the video(by dragging the timeline thingy) ahead a bit it plays video for a couple seconds then stalls again, but the audio is still there all the time.. The whoe video loads in and everything is normal except that.

Wow, I might have to do google chrome if it will run on this PC IDK.

I dont know if XP will run on this thing. Maybe with more ram?
Thanks for the fast replies guys!

Then you graphic card might be taking a .........or might be to weak to render the streaming videos

Also the video is not fully or at least 20% downloaded to run >> internet connection ??

Ebay offers Saphire 3850 HD very powerfull AGP card assuming you have AGP on this pc

2000 is a good OS. A 1gig processor is not worth investing in.

Chrome will run no problem.

This sounds more like a you tube thing if it is intermittent and only certain vids. They have issues often.

Did you get the problem fixed?

For starters, get rid of win2k. I don't think it's even supported anymore.

The issue isn't directx. That can be verified by running dxdiag and running the tests. (I think dxdiag is in win2k.....)

U got a codec issue. I'd *guess* either divx or xvid. What's your divx version?

If the issue is Online Videos, the ones you play in your browser, like Youtube as you described, is a FLASH related issue....I am certain of that.
If on the contrary you are not able to play Videos using ANY video player like Windows Media PLayer or Real Player, etc.....then is a Codec issue.

There is a great Video player that will play anything, try that if the issue is Codec related:
