That plate is very impressive.
If someone in the US could make that for $150, I would buy one.

It gets me thinking about doing something with a stock plate...
I wonder how neccisary the 'angled up' section is?
Could you get a similar effect by cutting out an area on a stock plate?
hmmmm....

Same here! I would love to see how a carbon molded version of that thing would perform!!

Instead of paying $650USD for the sponsons from LightWeight... I wonder if you could drill recessed holes in Tubbies from Blowsion so that you could mount them just as easily as LightWeight does theirs?

I don't see why not.

european stuff isnt cheap... those hulls could probably contain a nuclear blast...

I would be worried about that rideplate riding up onto sand (for you salty folks) and totally coming to a stop because the wing digs you in and then a wave crashes behind you and throws you into your pole...

it would be difficult to do.... I would imagine that Light-Weight had to develope them for bolt on use. There is probably a lot that would go into making a set bolt on like shown in the pic above.

Well, after close inspection, it looks like the 'angled up' part is a must.
It works with the surface tension of the water.
Without the 'angled up' part, the water wouldn't want to follow the contour, and wouldn't have the same effect.
So yamaslut, a stocker would not be able to be modified.
However, one could weld an 'angled up' part and cut out the stocker.
BUT, the angle (downward) of the wing plays an important role.

It's a sweet peice of art.

400.00 seems a little costly. I'm sure people would purchase them for that price, but only a few people. Lightweight should do a cost analysis to see the ROI (Return On Investment) if they sold them for $200.00 (a more tangible price for the average rider). They would likely sell more and I'm sure there is a certain number plates that would have to be sold which would justify this price. They already did all the engineering. Now they just need to make the money. Since the mold has also been made, it's just typical carbon/fiberglass laying labor and materials costs.

For example they can sell 5 over the next 3 months at $400.00 (2000.00), but if they reduced the price to $200.00, they could sell, for example, 15 (3000.00).

The question is whether it's worth it to them to net the extra 1000.00 (is the materials and labor close to or more than that).

If it is made of carbon, they could produce a lower-cost version out of fiberglass to reduce material costs.

I am hoping that Lightweight is reading this.

You aren't getting it, they are in Germany.....cost in US dollars is high, but it's not as high in Europe due to the exchange rate.

I'm sure it's relative cost is still higher than a Wammer plate by quite a margin, but the exchange rate is what drives it up so high.

Same goes for the Air Time Products parts, they are very expensive here in the states thanks to our exchange rate right now.

Yeah, I see your point, but if they want to play in the consumer market (non-pro, sponsored riders), then they should consider the large potential volumes in the US and take that into consideration. Otherwise, someone will just copy the design and sell them dirt cheap here in the US eventually anyway. The pictures are available. The concept is understood. We have a lot of talented people with patience on our site here.

It's really great to see engineering like this going into our sport instead of the typical "more power" attitude (which is also a good thing).
