Holy! :eek:mfg: I hadn't checked back in on this thread since day 1. Hats off dude, looks like you are doing some serious great work. I glassed up my square's nose the other night but it doesn't look an eighth as decent as yours :hail:

Yesterday I had the first of many multiple-hour sanding sessions. I'm starting to feel good about this thing and where it's going. Today I cut down the sides to their rough shape. I still have a long way to go, but my goal is to get it ready for paint within 2-3 weeks. So far I've gone through almost 7 yards of 1708 knytex. Looks like I'll have to buy about 2 more yards to finish up.

i cant believe its a square! im diggin it! the only thing im not crazy about it the shnozz in the profile view.... it looks like a beak. im thinking the pole is going to help that. what kinda pole are you going to put on it?

those footholds are more fwd than any others ive seen. interesting.

not trying to be a dick.....just being honest. i think it looks great... i mean jeez... it started as a square.... and the top deck and hood hasnt even been replaced!!

That is a sexy squarenose:bigeyes:. Those footholds are pretty far up though, even if you shortened the hull you wouldnt want them up that far, would you?

It's a -4 Xmetal pole and it looks awesome on there. I'll try to put the bracket back on and get another pick. I put the footholds further forward because my fat azz tends to make my current ski ride too nose high. Also, the pole is going to be very short overall. Since I redid the pole mount area, it is no longer angled back like on a normal square so the change in geometry actually shortens the pole by another inch or more. We'll see how the footholds do, but I think I'm going to like it. It should make for better weight distribution and less back pain. My back still doesn't like the 3.5" I cut off of my current pole.

I love this build and have gone through it several times since it was first posted.
What a way to utilise the square which are plentiful and cheap.
I'm sure that buying a conversion top deck would have been easier but I just don't get those, all you gain is looks and a herniated wallet.
Doing it this way you get a ton of experience , a truly custom boat, something totally unique.

Now that the nice, nice stuff is out of the way,.....
are you sure about the foothold placement ?

Great work so far and thanks for showing us that spending big on a round nose hull isn't everything. :woot:

I agree a little, but since its unpainted, its really easy to distinguish what he added on (and call it a beak). I think it will all gel together once painted. Its very hard to tell whats uniform and whatnot just through a few pics IMO.

Looks good, hopefully Ill be a Lanier to see it!

Have faith. That's my natural, non-surf stance position anyway. I think it will put the weight distribution just right for ME (not for everyone). Think about where your center of mass is when doing rolls in surf stance. I don't think this will be much different.
Thanks for the compliments.

Great work so far!

I'm cutting the sides of my tray soon and was wanting to glass a nose also, the only difference being the stock hood. And different lines of course.

You've inspiried me now. This build is awesome! Hope you don't mind if I fire over some PM's when I need help.

Sick lookin square:hail:

No problem. Anything I can do to help.

I'm going to 5200 in the plumbing tonight and lay glass on the sculpted sides of the tray. Tomorrow I'll reinforce the sides of the hull in the tray area and then after that I can install the exhaust plumbing, superman handhold and then footholds. Wow...that's a bunch of work to do in a short time.
