Just got my first stand up ski! 07 Yamaha Superjet! What mods should I do first?

I just bought an 07 Yamaha Superjet. I want to ease into the freestyle world. What mods should I do first? It came with a Worx Dominator ride plate and an Intake Grate.

Do nothing to it. Use it as a tool to meet people and try different skis. Save money and buy something already setup close to what you want.

Otherwise, if you want to keep that boat.

Start with tray time. Dominator is extended so you can consider picking up a stock rideplate for cheap to try.

Bilges are cheap and easy to install, wont keep you from riding.

Start saving money for pipe, head and prop. Do them at once so you dont have to buy multiple props. Spend the money to have someone tune it so you dont miss more than one weekend on the water. All together about $1500 new retail.

After that, you should meet people, try skis, choose your own path.

Free mods.

Cut the center two rungs out of the plastic stock intake grate to allow better water volume into your pump. Those two rungs push water away from themselves and create air pockets translating into cavitation. In this area, less is more...less rungs, less cavitation, more hookup.

Search for the pump nozzle steering mod. It's just relocating the ball for the steering cable closer to the turn nozzle giving your steering much better ratio and faster response.

The Worx Dominator full length plate is fine if you are learning, but you will notice that your ski will dive into the waves when coming back riding in the direction the waves are moving. You can cut that plate down on the line between Worx and Dominator to have a much more freeride worthy plate while still having excellent stability. Also, where the little D cut out is, take a half moon file and add an angle to the round portion of the D making the angle point in toward the pump. This will help ease the amount of drag that D creates and make high speed runs less turbulent. That plate really could have gone without that ridiculous D cutout in my opinion. It acts as a cornering brake of sorts to help you get better hookup in aggressive turns but it hurts everywhere else.
