Courtesy of John @ RaceLogic. Thanks again John! Top notch guy.

This new template kit is definetly quite a bit different than the original Sport Port.
The intake side of the sleeves is not notched anymore, either.

I will post pics later. For a freestyle application, this kit is the better one, I think.

The exhaust port is not oval shaped anymore - it's a flat-top port that narrows towards the bottom.

thats good info MattE.

Cant wait for the write up and photos.

and the comparison.

Ive already started one cylinder with the old Kit, maybe Ill do the other with the new kit and see how they compare.

Thanks for posting that pic Matt E. I lucked out and am getting one of the free sets John is giving out over at PWCToday. Can't wait to get the kit and start on it.

I am wondering if I did this to my 701 running 185 compression with a type 4 dry pipe would I still be able to run 93 octane fuel? I checked out the race logic website and read their FAQs but it wasnt real clear to me.

It is something I would like to try but I dont want to spend alot of money on high octane fuel.

If you can run pumpgas now, this porting won't change it. However, I do think that 185psi with a dry pipe is borderline.

Thats what I wanted to know. Ive been running this set-up for about 5 years without any problems. I suppose if I ran a gallon of 110 with 4 gallons of 93 it would be pretty safe and not too expensive.

I ran a Speedwerx dry pipe with 185-190psi and 32degrees initial advance on a Total Loss, all on pumpgas without a problem.

It's all in your riding style.

I also was hoping John @ Racelogic would come over here and post. I had PMed him the link and said that as far as freestyle, this place is where its at.

looks like a ring catcher... when you gonna try it out matt?

also any suggestions on transfers or still just matching the angle?

As long as it's chamfered properly, it shouldn't be a ring catcher. My current cylinder's exhaust port width is at 56mm - that's purdy much max on a Yami cylinder.
I would love to try it out, but I don't currently have a cylinder to try it on.
I'm looking though.
That shape should allow for the stock power stroke (no raising the exhaust port, good for bottom end) while giving plenty of port area for good flow. The narrowing reduces the blowdown - I am not sure exactly what that does.

Main thing about the transfers is to clean them up - that's the biggest gripe about the Stock yamaha porting. For angles, you want a steep angle on the boost port - I wouldn't mess with the stock angle.
And I believe the transfer port roofs on the twin Yamaha cylinder are already set up for bottom end power. I think I remember reading some of MacDizzy's material where he was complaining about Waveraider ports being too flat (roof angle) to produce high RPM power.

I forgot!
sport porting tryout

Well i spent quite a few hours porting my engine with this new sport port and i thought it turned out quite well for my first time. i cleaned up the transfers as well as the indicated porting/cutting of the sleeve. the stock cylinder is pretty bad, the sleeves didn't measure the same distance from bottom of cylinder to bottom of sleeve between front and rear cylinder so that is fixed with the template. I took it for a ride tonight and fouled the plugs immediatly, got some new plugs and was very impressed with the difference, wow the ski is really fun to ride and i haven't really dialed in the carbs yet, does anyone know if the jetting should be made richer or should it be leaned out, it feels that the ski is running a tad bit rich now. Anyways if you got a 701, buy this template and spend a week porting that cylinder cause it is totally worth all the swearing sweating, bugout eyeballing work to do it.

yes i was able to run a half of tank though it tonite and no blow ups so that is great, i bought new rings but the were wiescos and did not fit the stock pistons cause they were to thick?? so i had to put in the old rings which did not look too new anymore, oh well i think i wanna bore up to a 753 within the next month so i will have to do a little more porting to match the bigger bore. it worked good tonight and that makes me more than happy with the time and money spent.
