i grew up riding dirtbikes doing hillclimbs / desert / goat trail and lots of dune rides my whole life rode every weekend just about my life growing up ( no daddy didnt spoil me i worked for everything at 8 years old i was laying tile with him) we only had a jetski to just mess around with and keep cool a few times during the summer. never really got seriously into standups till when i was 17ish and once i did pretty much parked the bikes and gave everything i had for skis for the past 3 years.. now last weekend my friend convinced me to go ride with him figured ah what the hell i'll go play in the snow for a bit. had a nice mellow ride. had the itch so went again yesturday had a nice hard core ride and now im hooked i was planning on going to the lake tommrow to attend the annual 2013 Polar Bear ride with all the vegas riders. but i'm unloading my skis and heading to california to hit the hill-climbs!

Sooo my question is anyone leave a sport from being in it for years get into stand ups then all of a sudden like a light switch you go back into your other sport? what happend how long did it take you to transfer back into skis? Lol

hers a video of the hillclimbs i do, i have a hole channle if you find it interesting. and a few jetski vidoes

Raced MX for 30 years, got competitive in freestyle on skis, now trying to unload my superjet. (bought my wife a RZR900XP LE EPS for Christmas) Already added 4pt harnesses to the cage/seats, roof, windshield, winch, doors are ordered, number plates and required racing gear is on the way!!! Little did I know, side x side racing is a huge deal here in the South, the forums are great, and it's a ton of fun!!! ps-I'm 42 so there is alot of appeal to a roll cage now days. LOL

For over 30yrs I've mainly surfed and Jet Skied on the side for almost 20. Time is catching up too me though and matter how hard I try and stay on top of surfing, the young kids just flat out, out paddle me. These last few years I find myself riding the ski way more than surfing.

I raced mx for a few years before discovering jet skis. Did both for a while, but injuries on the bikes drove me back to the water. I was then exposed to pitbike racing a few years later. That went great until I tore my ACL. Spent the next year healing up and have been strictly riding stand-ups for the past 3 summers. I still have my bikes, but have had no desire to go hard on 2 wheels. I do find time to play around on mtn. bike and ride a little flatland on my 20incher in the spring and fall. I know skis can be very dangerous, but my experiences have shown me as I get older, I'd rather crash on water than dirt. I say follow your heart to what gives you the best adrenaline rush. Its good to take a break now and then so you don't get burned out, just don't sell your toys and regret it later.

I had a dirtbike as a kid until I bought my first car. Once I got my car and became Interested in working on cars I bought all these other "project" cars that I could never finish since I didn't have a garage... Years later I bought a dirtbike on a whim... Once I rode a bike again I was pissed at myself for all the damn cars I bought and didn't use when I could have had another dirtbike the whole time! Anyway I rode it for a few months than tried a Harescramble race (basically an enduro with no timed checkpoints, just flat out racing through rocks, mud, roots, and hills) did terrible at my first race. I sucked all the water out of my camelback on the first lap (each lap was 15 miles) and puked in my mouth multiple times. It defeated me and I did t like that. The next race I entered I finished 3rd place with a trophy and was hooked from that point. Raced for another 3 years and worked my way up to the expert class with some help from a few sponsors. Bought a house and had kids couldn't afford to race so I bought a js440 for $150 and have pretty much been buying and selling jetski junk for a couple years until I rode surf on a B1 and got hooked on that for a couple years. Just bought a Superfreak and sold my chopped/rockered B1 to build another one (Gen2). Still have 2 dirtbikes and a few bicycles in the garage that don't get touched. I say don't sell the toys and you won't forget about the sport. If you didn't have your dirtbike still you wouldn't have gone riding that day and get hooked again. Keep all toys! They are harder to get back the older you get
I've actually considered selling my dirtbikes but my situation is a little different than yours. I just moved 1400 miles away from where I grew up and don't have any riding buddies down here that I can just call up and go riding with. Not saying I wouldn't ride again but thats just another thing going against me for riding dirtbikes again. Plus there's no rocks, mud, roots, and hills here... It's all sand and mud... Not my thing

Went from MX (dirtbikes then quads) to street bikes to skydiving to waves with some snowmobiling in there somewhere....waves are here to stay so far as I can tell!!! I love stand ups!

But a RZR is looking really good right now! My friend has a maxed out RZR with heat and doors and radio and man is it fun!! Plus you can make them street legal around here...add a plow....seems like endless potential to have fun!

Oops forgot about snow skiing...it all started there and I am looking for new skis now for the first time in 20 years....

Also killed a Jeep or 2 in the mix somewhere...

I have worked around them for 3 years now and thought they were grossly overpriced go carts. I bought one for Cheryl, started playing with it, and boy was I wrong. I have to say, I 'm pretty dam impressed with the overall package that Polaris is producing! It flies level, climbs just about anything, and goes like a bat out of hell. So far the only thing I hate is the 2 hours with the pressure washer after words. LOL

They really are amazing!! They worked some bugs out over the years (single rear disk brake!) and now the aftermarket is on fire...it is on my short list for sure!

I always hated mud (pressure washing)....but I'll get over it!

I can't really say much after the amount of money I've dumped into jetskis but those side by sides and big couch 4x4 ATVs cost way too much money in my opinion. I couldn't justify it but thats where the pre-owned market helps out. I guess if they can be street legal and you can make a little money plowing then it's cool. Dirtbike and streetbike prices have gone crazy too! Seems like everything but my paycheck is priced too high these days. I had a few rock crawling Jeep Cherokees, dirtbikes, mountain bikes, big fast diesel trucks, fast cars, etc but dirtbikes and jetskis are the ones that seem to make the most sense to me. Dirtbikes are great but to be competitive racing is like a full-time job with training, excercising, eating healthy, bike maintenance, practicing, etc. I like jetskis because it's easy to just go ride for an hour and have fun without driving too far to ride. Dirtbikes are harder and harder to find good places to ride these days

As long as we stick to Class 1 racing ONLY, I will end up with about 20k tied up in EVERYTHING. XP900, all the bolt ons and safety stuff, trailer, riding gear.
Now if we went to class 2-well thats just like the definition of BOAT-bring on another thousand. lol

I am always watching craigslist for a 2000 and up CR250 project bike. I grew up on bikes but got out of it when I started working 20 years ago. The last two times I moved for work I had full intention to get back into dirt bikes but both times I ended up in areas that aren't condusive to the type of riding I want to do. Northern Alberta was all swamp land so I ended up with a couple sleds and ATV's. I was excited to move to the US and tried to trade off my sleds and quads on a brand new 4 stroke dirt bike only to discover that South Carolina is 100% private owned land and the only riding spots would be "pay to ride" trails and dirt tracks.

As much as I enjoyed dirtbikes, mudding and sledding in the past, the only hobby that never falters in my interest has been jetskiing.

I rode a 2000 CR250 from the novice class to the expert class and loved it. I bought a 2003 CR250 and hated it so I got a mint 2001 to swap my parts over to when my 2000 was clapped out. I had the oldest bike on the expert line and that's when I got a good offer from a local KTM shop and got my 08 KTM 300xcw... Best bike I've ever ridden in the woods by far! Never even had to revalve or respring the suspension either which is funny cuz Factory Connection Suspension was one of my sponsors. I just put their stickers on my bike and rode it as is.
I've kept my 2001 CR250 as a sentimental "trophy"

2000 CR250 frame with a 500cc engine swap is an insane combo. A buddy built one for a movie stunt he was filming back in 2001 and I loved it. He was originally scheduled to use his KDX500 until someone else decided they needed it more than he did. He was a sponsored rider and was always swapping brands; his little brother was hooked on KTM and he was always trashing them but I thought they were the best bike on the market next to the CR250.

To the op, I do that all the time. I am very undecisive and buying and selling all sorts of different toys is 90% of the fun. I switch hobbies alot, but I think I am going to stick with jet skis for a while. Riding in the surf is fun, rewarding and is pretty safe compared to some other hobbies. In the past 2 years my bad habits accelerated greatly and i've been through 4 jet skis and something like 5 motorcycles. Since 12 years old, (now 22) i've been through about 10 different hobbies and the amount I learned is nothing short of amazing and even landed me a career in being a great mechanic, I can probably build a car from scratch with what I have learned! Im excited to see my capabilities when im much older!

I probably would've went through a MX phase if we had some good places to ride on Long Island, but its non existant. If you feel like taking a break from jet skis, do it, but not at the expense of taking a loss on your ski. For you thats your decision.. But keep in mind you will most likely come back to it, just like most ppl do.

Crazy for sand ,some years ago i thought i would start riding dirtbikes again as a way to keep practiced for jetskis over the winter period (for the several months i choose not to ride)well just as your debate goes mine did as well,i actually started to like riding mx more than skis and started to do more of it than water stuff.well lets fast forward a couple years ,systematically it seems all the areas locally we liked to ride(natural terrain and mx parks) were either built on or shut down for one reason or another.there is still a lot of good stuff to ride on ,but plan on taking a good drive.now cutting to the chase of my point ,a few years ago i left the security of the company i worked for and went into business for myself .this took me to a place in life where rolling the dice on a mx bike regularly was not a good option eventually injury will catch up to even the best riders and i had no health ins so for my family's sake i slowed it down.fast forward to present day i still ride both but have gravitated to my ski a little more than anything else i do ,but i feel a healthy need to switch things up to keep things new and interesting .so for me personally i love my jet ski #1 but come old man winter it gets sidelined a bit during those colder months for some sxs action ,dirtbike, quad,or snowboarding ,fishing,hunting,ect..i just like to mix it up and experience the other fun things life has to offer and it usually helps keep me occupied and helps me get over the winter months till im back in the water .hang in there and don't sell your ski's you will regret it ! oh yea i enjoyed the vid ,nothing like a sketchy hill climb !

i go back and forth between skis, moto, surfing, kitesurfing, downhill mntbiking etc etc..i always do all of them at the same time but i usually switch which one i do more every couple months..usually its due to conditions..when the waves are good ill surf and ski more than i ride moto..when its windy in the spring ill kite..when the surf is small and theres no wind i ride moto..best of both worlds..right now ive been motoing allot because i have a 1year old and its easy for me to go to the track from 9-1 every saturday instead of chasing waves all over..around here u have to travel to find waves when its not winter..

i also like moto and surfing because its so challenging..jetskiis are much easier to master than moto of surfing..moto is harder because its more physically demanding and surfing is harder because u cant practice for 2 hrs strait like u can on a ski..
