MEX RAGER XI OCT. 13th - 15th
Im sorry guys but I'm canceling my attempt at trying to get the Mex Rager going again strong.. as of now I can't see very many people showing up at all with the Joe Kenny event being just a week after..

I still will be in Mexico for the Rager anyway...

I have big plans for an event next spring in Calif. (If I don't run into another conflict with people thinking of a last minute event.)

I will try and team up with a few guys to get idea's from everyone (yes, even peon riders like myself) and try to make an event for the riders, by the riders, just like this site and we will let everyone know what's up as it evolves.. (date picking, challanges, dinners, etc.) there will be plenty of notice and NO SECRETS.. I'm hoping this will be the event all are promised to be..

I will be happy to get anyone who wants to help on the team..

I will need help from pro riders and fun riders from back east, north, south, west and everywhere in between..

Thanks... Butch

The IJSBA announced via phone and web site...
25th IJSBA World Finals at the Crazy Horse Campground in Lake Havasu City, AZ, on September 30 to October 8, 2006. (location might change)
http://www.ijsba.com/ijsba/index.cfm?s=wf2006&t=2006/wf/main.htm

THE IFWA CANCELED THE OCEANSIDE FREE RIDE
The IFWA agreed today via e-mails and web site...
That Oct. 15th-16th is where they will stay for round 4 USA.. (location not known and not taking a week off for the international riders after W/F) So no changes will be made on their web site ..
http://www.ifwa.com.br/

Looks like we will have our local talent and some international riders heading to Mexico too !

These look to be the final dates and I would like to let you know that there is a free / play ride in Mexico called the Mex Rager.. IT IS NOT A Sanctioned COMPETITION ! It is a time to make new friends, ride in the surf, enjoy the end of the season..

There wont any be points or entry fee's but there will be a purse of $1000.00 'USD' for...

1. $400.00 to anyone completing a double back flip (riders pick of closest completion)
2. $300.00 to the best double barrel roll (riders pick)
3. $200.00 best new trick/farthest/highest jump (riders pick)
4. $100.00 neatest injury of the weekend or longest road trip to get there ?

THE 'Mex Rager' it has been taking place in Mexico after the World Finals in Havasu for 11 years now..

There is camping on the beach (not many "if any" hotels, motels or dives close by) plenty of parking. Bring a tote or a good 4 wheel drive to launch, toilet paper (no bathrooms only a tree!) Quads to rent in the dunes 1/2 mile north, shops to shop in a few miles north..

Mex Rager is located at Cantamar beach (about 40 miles into Mexico)
Bring plenty of water & liquor & food & liquor & firewood &
liquor & beer. This campsite is VERY primitive – there are NO
showers or facilities for miles. Make sure you bring your
registration for ALL vehicles – cash for dinner Sat nite , toll
roads, camping fee (varies per year – usually $30 - $60 for the weekend) & to bail your drunk friends outta jail….or talk your way out of it!!
Might be a good idea to hook up with others and travel as a group to avoid the po po going in and out of Mexico..

DIRECTIONS:
From US Hwy 5 South cross to Tijuana –

Take Rosarito-Ensenada toll road (cuota) –

PASS Rosarito Beach cross toll gates and exit at Cantamar.

Turn LEFT (south) continue past sand dunes & and just
over bridge (lagoon) take 1st driveway to Cantamar Beach.

Pay toll at house. (Someone usually puts up a banner/sign)

You will pay 2 tolls & are about an hour past the border.

The purse money will be sent to a fund set up by www.X-H2o.com
If you need more information CHECK IT OUT www.X-h2o.com in the forum sections..

Much more info to follow..

Thanks again Butch Musick

Lots of RV room and not too bad to access, there was like 10-15 there last year (a few giant bus things with trailers) and plenty of room for more ! The parking is like 1/3-1/2 mile wide 20-30 yards deep along the beach..

I have been talking to guys for a few weeks now from Italy, Spain, France and Morocco, (one just never knows who might be there) Riff, Randy Laine, Rick Roy and trying to contact alot more..

Rick Roy Just wrote me saying he will try and make it !!
"Sounds good that’s how it should be
It should not change thanks for the help to keep this event alive .
I’m trying to organise my schedule to get there"

Thanks Rick

Flyers are heading out everywhere !!

I was talking to Chris (MAC) MacCluggage last saturday and sunday at Body Beach (Lake Havasu) and he says MEXICO !!! more and more saying yes !!

And oh my that hydro Space of his IS the neatest, fastest thing (for closed course) I have ever rode !!

oh and looking at the "Addicted in Baja!" thread it looks like they are moving the pismo ride to the same dates as the Mex Rager ! NOT replacing it lol.. I'm not sure why they would move the dates to the worst time of year (from Aug.to Oct.) for waves in Pismo if not to replace it, but they did.. There might be a choice of driving 300 miles north (4 hours) into colder weather or 60 miles south from O-side..

If you're interested, you folks might want to start checking flights into the Central or Southern California coast (with rental car if you hit SoCal) in, oh, saaaaaaaaaaay about the third weekend in October. Ship a tent and some sleeping bags for use on the beach, 'cause once you arrive, the show will be so freakishly amazing, you will want to camp on your spot.

More to come.....on that.

So it looks like there might be 2 events going at the same time !! anyways there should be something for everyone going on that weekend !

I guess it was kept a secret from everyone but a select few who makes choices for you on changing the dates for Pismo ride huh ?

I sure hope this works out ok and not a divider for people who want to ride BOTH events and cant now.. I think it sucks because I wanted to go to both !

No matter what the rager will live on !!

I guess this will be my last try.. i'm moving the mex rager to oct. 13th-15th..
I'm not sure if that date will be the IFWA oceanside free ride competion or not (no one will tell me if it's going to happen or not and I havn't seen and posts on it so people do know) Now that I have seen how this works I have seen/heard every reason why the mex rager should be moved out of mexico and then watch everyone shoot to mexico a week later for the baja addiction and have a great time !! I was told that free rides are to be laid back/kick back type of atmosphere.. then see a total circus of a event posted and those same people saying how cool and great it will be.. now the same people that sponsored the IFWA oceanside last year wont say anything on if its going to happen.. The IFWA wont return my e-mails anymore (another secret ???)
Looks like it's going to be a classic case of.. Not that we win.. it's that you lose !! your not in our click !! I'm switching all my ski's to gator grip !!

I think everyone admires your enthusiasm (sp?) but you said it yourself, freerides are a laid back fun time and you are making waaaaaaaay too big of a deal out of this. Freerides are laid back, thats why they are not planned a year in advance. IFWA and the sponsors have been working on getting the event planned, it's not easy getting permits they have already been turned down. Then to make an ignorant comment like you are switching your skis to gator grip is just lame. There is no click, IFWA is busy with Bali right now. Calm down and do what I did, take vacation for the last half of October something is bound to come up.

Butch -
Please keep in mind that the weekend in Pismo is host to numerous events -- not only will there be the FreeStyle Surf Slam contest but it is also host to the 3rd Annual Smashing Pismo Freeride weekend which is the laidback freeride type atmoshphere we have talked about.

I am truly sorry you cannot apprecicate why I had to keep things under my hat - you have been so vocal on MexRager that I wasn't at liberty to discuss any details of any impending event until permits were in hand. The last thing we needed in this undustry was for JK to start announcing things were going to happen to only end up without a permit.

As I have always said - MexRager is a blast - I am sure regardless of what happens overs the month of October there will be people who opt to hit up Mex -- heck if the OSide IFWA contest doesn't happen I am sure I will be there too. That is afeterall my BDay weekend and anyone who knows me knows what a big deal my Bday is & having it NOT at World Finals for the first time in 7 years in disapointing!!! LOL!!!

On another note - HydroTurf has not signed any sponsorship deals with the IFWA NOR JK for the FSS -- If you feel you were treated unfairly or I was trying to rob the sport of something than I apologize. I was trying to be as accomodating to you as I could be without betraying anyone else or potentialy creating any negative feedback for the FSS.

Thanks for the support Derek & Takeastand. As long as you guys are out there doing what you love we will be here to support you!!!!!

Derek, Laurel, Zach, all great points. What Laurel is saying about permits is very likely the reason you haven't heard much from the IFWA either Butch. I know you have a lot of passion for trying to get the Mex Rager thing to work, and I respect that. Trust me, the industry "click" is not out to sabatog you.

A month and a half ago I mentioned that I had heard something else might be going on that same weekend. That something was the contest being put on by JK and Ross Champion, but I was in a similiar position as Laurel in that I really couldn't say anything about it at that time.

Every should just take a step back for a second and breath.

There's a clique? How come I wasn't invited? :indifferent:

Apparently this is what they drink when they have their little get togethers..... bassturds!

I don't know that I can add anything to this discussion that has not already been said but I will try and explain myself and reasoning for keeping things quite.

We kept our contest quiet till we were SURE that we had permits in order. I did not want to get anyone excited about an event that we could not deliver. And I am glad we did becaue there were times in the past I thought we were close to having a permit at another venue and that fell through.

And I have to thank Laurel for not saying anything to anyone. We talked to her about it early on as a consultant, to get her ideas and concerns about the event. But we specifially asked her not to say anything to anyone untill we were sure we could do it.

Butch, if there is anyone for you to be mad at, please be mad at me. Not HT or JK or anyone else involved in the event. I did not tell many of my close personal friends about this contest becaue I did not want the information to get out till it was a sure thing. And permits are VERY VERY VERY hard to come by for this type of contest. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to tag along to the other happenings in Oceano/Pismo on October 20th to 22nd. Laurel and anyone else who knew what we were working on also knew that for one, it was by no means a sure thing that the event would take place, and two that I would be extremly upset if any info was leaked and we were unable to deliver.

As far as the IFWA goes (just my take on it) the reason you don't know anything is because they don't either.

I apologise for any trouble I have caused you, I know you just want the best for the sport and people involved. And I really appreciate that. In retrospect I think I could have handeled the whole situation much better.

:tool:

No, I was not slamming them for not giving me a date. There was a lot more to it then that that I cannot talk about. We had private conversations on the phone that I will not go into.

HT - I apologize to you. I would never change my skis from Hydroturf. I guess I was a little frustrated thinking you were the sponsors because on the IFWA Site, it's called the Hydroturf free-ride championship. That could be left over from last year and I could understand that. I really thought that you would know something about the Oceanside event. I never did say anything about our private conversations or post them on the boards on issues that were confidential. Thank you for your information.

Jetskier79 - You said "everybody should step back for a second and breathe."
We have been doing that for six months, that's why I was trying to get the ball rolling on that event or any event at all. It looked like nothing was going to happen this year.

RossC - I'm not mad at you for any reason. You have a great event going. It really will be a blast. Sounds like it could be the event of a lifetime. We will be there. One thing I'd like to point out is you did go out of your way to post on the thread for "no west coast rides on the map" that:

"Just for the record, there is currently nothing planned for any events. I looked in to some stuff a while ago, but there is no event planned."

Then, two weeks later you post the Pismo ride. I can understand that you might have been brought on to help with the Pismo ride and truly couldn't comment on it also.

LisaLisa - At least you knew where to find the full/empty can and where to look...lol

I apologize to anybody who I may have offended or may have felt I was mad. I am not mad. I was looking out for the sport also and trying to get some freerides going for this year.

Joe Kenny - I have no reason to ever be mad for the great event he's putting on. It will definitely be the ride of the century. You have done a great job. If you feel that's not my true feelings, we can armwrestle over it..lol

I meant now, like, everyone who was a little frustrated by this post needed to step back and breath for a second.....before posting.
