Custom/Hybrid Ideas on hull inserts

How are you guys making and installing inserts for fuel tanks, waterboxes etc? I need to install all new inserts for both in my Rok, as my original install was an epic failure. I have some ideas, but I'd rather just do it the right way this time, haha. If I epoxy in some small tapped plates and glass over them, how would I keep resin out of the threads, and then remove the glass from over the threads? I feel like I'm making this way to complicated!

Get some stainless t nuts from Lowes or Home Depot. Put the bolts in them and pour wax on any exposed threads or areas that you don't want resin to stick to.

Yep, T-Nuts. I (well, my buddy) put four of them in my SF for a stock battery box. Several layers of carbon over the T-nuts, holds up great.

Got mine from Ace Hardware.

When glassing in inserts or anything similar, I always grease up the bolt and put it in the insert and then glass it in. The grease on the threads is enough to keep the epoxy from locking the bolt in place.

Will, what I did for my LW X2 was fill the inserts thread holes with modeling clay. Then lay carbon over them completely (with no seam over the insert). Then once the resin cures drill a small hole in the carbon right over the threads... then run a tap thru to clean out the clay. Worked perfect and you dont have to glass around a bolt sticking through your plys (which I have also done and worked fine). Just another idea.
