I left a gas tank outside for like 1.5 months. There was also a little bit of gas, so that dried up and is all nasty and gunky on the bottom. Also looks like there might be some mold inside. What solution would you use to clean the inside???

A lot of guys use Simple Green.

I'd like to make my SJ tank look better, it's kinda brownish/redish...any ideas on cleaning that. I wonder if bleach or maybe lemon juice, and then leave it out in the sun???

Pore some bleach in the tank to kill the mold and acetone will dilute the dried gas deposits.

Also if you have a pressure washer available, you could stick the wand in the larger holes and blast the inside of the tank.

There you go, I like the pressure washer idea... why didn't I think of that?????

I use Berryman B12 in a spray can,you can direct the spray to some of the larger chunks then when its all sprayed out just slowly rotate the tank around till it dissolves the rest,it will eat dried up gas like it was a styrofoam cup, wear eye protection and don't breathe the stuff too much if at all possible,When it is all broken up rinse it out with water then with gas.

My suggestion:

Go to your local dollar tree and pick up a couple bottles of LA's totally awesome orange, or either the regular la's totally awesome. I detail boats, and this works better than simple green, greased lightning, ect.. and it's only a dollar a bottle.

If you can, get the bottle with the green/ clear sprayer, it's much higher quality than the other.

I 2nd the Berryman B12 Chemtool in a bottle, or aerosol also - it works great. I've also used a pressure washer to clean the inside of tanks, and a shop vac also. Good luck!

bleach directly on plastic will cause it to turn yellow. if you have to kill mold, mix 1 tbsp per 1 gallon of water and slosh it around.

simple green should help with the clarity of the plastic.

i really could care less on how pretty it is... i just want it contaminant free on the inside. I think the pressure washer will do what I need it.

bluegtate said I can grab one of his 2 extra tanks he has at his so I can install it, then clean my dirty one this weekend.
