How to do the Matt E Quick Steer Mod?

D-Roc

I forgot!
will you stil get full throw both ways by extending just the end of the cable? i would think you will have a more difficult time centering the nozzle and getting full throw both ways. moving the cable keeper part back would work better.

Old Mod.......

make sure the cable is not hitting the water inlet boss, I did this mod and bent two steering cables.

Also, you can use the outer hole on the XMetal turn plate, you may have to clearance the steering nozzle a bit.

This is if you are using the XMetal Pole.

1. When adjusting the Steering Cable do not connect the nozzle end of the cable until you have adjusted the steering end

2. Make sure the turn plate hits the Steering Stop in both directions

3. You may be required to cut 1/4” off the turn plate end of the cable

4. Once you have adjusted the steering end, connect the nozzle end.

5. Adjust the nozzle end of the cable to your desired setting

due to my xft ride, i wound up using a kawi 650 steering nozzle (way more throw than the SJ nozzle) because the oem nozzle wouldnt fit..... the cable did hit the cooling fitting boss on the pump, but i ground it down to where the cable doesnt hit it anymore.

Keep the turnplate and the nozzle separate.
For fastest turns, you want the cable closer to the center on the nozzle.
On the turnplate, you want it further away from the center.
However, with my XMW straight bars I cannot use the furthest hole as that would kink the cable. So I run the middle hole on them.
You have to realign the steering after you do all this.
There is enough room in the stock cable to do all this.

Here is a picture of my nozzle.

With a brand new OEM RN steering cable and x-metal turn plate I was able to have both quick steer on the nozzle, and furthest outer hole on the turn plate. My adjustments are to the extreme, and I had to cut about 1/4 of the steering cable on the steering plate side, but its on there.

And oh yah, I had to clearence the inside of the turn nozzle b/c it was hitting the reduction nozzle. Steering cable clears the cooling boss by about 2mm

I had to cut mine as well - about 1/8-3/16 on both ends....

I made a little bracket on the nozzle that put the steering cable attachement about as far forward as it is in toward the center of the nozzle... in retrospect I dont know how much this really helped... maybe just a little...

Oh and I had to grind off some of the casting of the pump where the bottom right long bolt goes through that holds everything together.... the cable was hitting there... and I put the nub that the cable attaches to on the bottom side of the steering nozzle rather than on the top..

650sx/x2 nozzles work awesome the ball just goes on the other side. I cut one in half then glassed it to another to make an extended steering nozzle. It looked OEM too I couldn't believe how well it turned out.
