How much should I chop off??

Just picked up a stock pole and am going to shorten it. I am thinking of cutting 2 inches above the bottom black bracket, to make it a total of 3.5 inches shorter. I am 5'10 and was wondering what other guys my size think of this length?? What lengths is everyine else using??

I'd say go for it. I rode a few skis with -4 and -5 poles and I liked them and I'm only like 5'7. Especially for a flat water boat, I think you would be fine.

I'm 5'4" :)Banane01: ) and I run a -2 pole, shortened turn plate (-1.5?) and lowered bracket (-1?)

I guess that makes for a total of -4.5 ?
It feels really weird standing on it on the trailer, like it's waaaay too short...but it's perfect in the water.

I'm 5'9" & rode Slut's ski w/-6.5 & loved it so much I ordered the AMW turn system a few days later - Not sure how short it'll be with AMW -2 pole, AMW turn system = -4"?:Banane01:

This was in medium choppy surf.

My suggestion to you is cut off what you described in the original post. That is what I did. I rode it for a month and then decided to take another three inches out of it. It only costs you 10 rivets (Stainless Steel rivets), a little epoxy, and about an hour of your time. But, if you cut off too much- your ****ed.
I am happy with mine at -6 with standard UMI plate and 4 degree bars. I am almost 6 foot and weigh 225. I am definately able to control the ski better and the nose isn't always finding the sky after jumps.

There's about 1.5" if the stock pole sticking into the aluminum bracket at the bottom. The easiest way to shorten is to scribe a line parallel to the top of the bracket, cut and then remove the cut-off piece from the bracket. If you cut 1" above the bracket you lose 2.5" total (1" + 1.5" inside the bracket). Make sense?
