Other How much rope?

How much rope would it reasonably take to safely tow a standup ski? Maybe 8 feet? Just thinking about stashing some rope on the couch in case I need a pull at some point.

don't forget the length of rope required for the knots on the end (if you aren't using clips)
Edit: I would use a daisy-chained 550 cord around my waist or as a limiting rope.

You're going to get a ton of different opinions with this one. Here's the basics. IF you're only towing a short distance, then a very short rope will work fine, for example, 200 yrds to the shore. If you're planing on towing any kind of lond distance you will be better off with a Long rope, approx 30' plus. With a Long rope you can tow at speed on plane and the ski being towed won't be in the "V" wake of the ski doing the towing. For a short tow a long rope isn't necessary

Surf = 3 feet for short distance tow (you can double it as limiting rope)
Flat = 20 feet for long distance tow (it will allow you to tow at high speed and standing up. It will also keep the back rider away from the Jet stream)

I personally carry both and have used them successfully as I described.

We use approx 6' (twice around the waist) in the surf and our ride from launch to surf is better than 1/2 mile.

Long is nice if you have that luxury (flat water and a place to stow it)

I recently started bundling my rope and attaching it to my vest.
