SXR How Lose The Most Weight Possible From Stock Hull

Yesterday I started on a huge project to see how much weight I can cut, grind, throw away or buy cheap.
I already have a modded ski so my total stock weight is unknown but I'll just keep track from now on.
Here's what I have now Wetpipe, A/M spark arrestor, TTL flywheel, Dakine footstraps, bilge pump, SXR bilge switch, TBM throttle, cut throttle bracket, Worx grate, complete RRP handpole & D-cut rideplate.

Here are some weights in pounds:
Dry SXR800 with battery = 374 lbs
Hood = 22 + tool kit = 1
Battery = 14
Battery & Exhaust bracket = 2.5
Waterbox = 7
Wetpipe = 13 ...... Stock exhaust= 16
RRP HP. complete = 23 ..... Stock HP. complete = 23
Bare Hull [incl. bearing housing, shoe, turf, bumpers, nose plate, rail pads, motor mounts] = 159
Bumpers, Nose Plate, Rail Pads = 10
I will add as project grows

I've read one guy got 41 lbs removed , that would be great but I've also read where someone got 75 lbs off. I don't see this but I guess I'll find out.
So my goal is to remove 50 lbs, cut 2" of the back and increase bottom end brap. I e-mailed Lowell Horning about a freestyle port job and will most likely send it to him. Unless someone knows of another person that can do a better job.

I'm not looking forward to the glue removal but Holy Crap there is atleast 40 pounds of the stuff.

im looking to do the same thing with my 750sx this winter. i already did a light weight battery and dry pipe. im thinking pole, bars, and hood but we shall see :D

the sx has 15lbs of dead weight glued into it. 2 plates in the nose and two inside the gunwale next to the exhaust pipe (no kidding here) i have the plates on the shelf to prove it.

on the sxr i would remove all the spooge and get a 12lb hood from tom 21. he is here on the boards and makes a good product.
 
Here are some pics just starting to tear down the ski. I'm sure there is no surprise as to the amount of glue inside the hull.
What is the best way to remove the glue? I have an air die grinder with good bits but I tried a little and it's slow. I was thinking scoring it with a small 2" circular saw blade and snap the pieces off.

I was goimg to cut the rail flat since I'm already gutting the glue out the back. What would be the reason not to cut them.
Also lowering the hood so it's flush when I remove the nose plate.
I going so far that I'm considering grinding all the gelcoat and resin from beneath the hull and just epoxy paint it after. The resin is fairly thick, espesially near the back. Not quite sure if it's a good idea.
Any suggestion on how many layers of glass I need to apply to restore the cut rails and capping the back of the hull?

Cutting the rails flat will make it handle like garbage. Ask the unfortunate guy on PWCT that make that mistake.

Ok I will trim the back off but leave the sides.
I was thinking the " wat u ma'callit " .... rear fin for lack of a better word. Where the footholds go.
When I removed the rubber caps, there was a hump on top and I'll remove that when I cut into the tray.
 
you could save 10oz if you grind off all the factory gel.......lol



glue removal is huge...get on thgat first and formost

Well 5lbs max is substantial but the work/weight ratio is terrible.
It must be done though.

I got plans for every bracket and tab on the motor. I'm just tossing around any idea to save weight.
 
Weight of gelcoat vs epoxy paint.

Water = .036127 lbs / in^3
Gelcoat = 1.2 h2o
Epoxy Paint = 1.5 h2o

Area = 80" x 30" = 2400 in^2
Gelcoat = 2400 x .060" = 144 in^3 ......... 144 * .036 * 1.2 = 6.2 lbs
Epoxy = 2400 x .025" = 60 in^3 ..............60 * .036 * 1.5 = 3.24 lbs

That' 3 lbs and I think .060" is a very conservative thickness for the gelcoat and resin under the hull.
Seeing as I need to paint it anyway it may be worth it.
