Did a search on this and didnt come up with anything. Has anybody made there own hoodstraps or is it even worth it over spending 29.00 at blowsion? Who sells the cheapest hoodstraps? I was thinking I might need some.

I made some out of simple tie downs....the kind that you just pull the strap through to tighten it....works well for me, seems much stronger than the ones blowsion sells. I think I only spent about $15.

get some 1" nylon webbing, some plastic clips plus adjusters, and brass grommets and you're good to go.

i only have a pic of mine on the site, its in the hood section, but its easy to do. burn the ends with a lighter so they dont fray i also sewed them together. to make the holes i just fold the nylon over and burn into it until i have the desired size hole. then smash on the grommet.

So is $5 bucks, if it works the same.
I got the Blowsion set, Phill's got his homemade stuff. Mine look better - functionally, his are stronger.

How did you attach? Just a washers and bolts throught bulkhead and attach to the hood hook bolts on th front? Ill look on romacks site.

I attached mine using the fire extinguisher bolts and under the pole mount screws. I used grommets like romack described in his post.....very simple to do... IMO you can make them much stronger AND cheaper than blowsions.

Mine lasted longer than the Blowsion ones....in fact I actually broke one of the clips by just tightening it:bigeyes:

I cut the straping out of an old life vest I had around. Used all the clips and bolted to the hull using Stainless bolts and washers. This isn't a great pic but you get the idea.

I got the Blowsion ones .By the time you drive around and get the material and make it yourself you spent more than $29 in your time and money.

I've never heard anyone say that their hood came off with the Blowsion straps on there so you don't need it to be any stronger than that .:haha:

Some bigger clips would be the only way to improve the Blowsion kit cause the straps are more than strong enough to hold anyones hood on

I also broke a blowsion clip right away. I guess they are supposed to flop around a bit and not actually be pulled tight.

I did the same thing to mine and had to replace the clip. DO NOT crank them down too tight. Just snug enough to keep your hood from coming off in the event your latch or hooks break or come lose.

I made my own as well. Just go to Wal-Mart and in the camping area supplies, you can find a package of 2 nylon straps with clips for about $1.68. Buy some stainless steel bolts and washers from Home Depot or Lowe's (this was the hardest part for me). I bought the wrong gromets, but I got them in the fabrics area of Wal-Mart, don't bother buying the tool, it sucked, and I just ended up using my gerber. Anyhow, I have a square nose, I had to remove the front cover, easy to do, unscrew the two side bolts and carefully remove cover. Now you have access to the hood clips, remove the 2 -10mm screws and place straps on the top of the blocks/hooks. I attatched the other end in the tray where the fire extinguisher was. I just used the supplied screws and attatched it to both holes in the tray for added security. Make sure to use a lighter where you made cuts to prevent fraying. I have several pictures if you need help, I also made my own limiting rope as well.

Good luck, they are pretty easy to make.
