Home made footholds!

I had the tray cut and done, took one ride and didn't like em so as soon as I got home I ripped them out and started over. Granted I was in a bit of a hurry the first time, but this time I'm taking my time and they are turning out WAAAAAAAY better!

Started with some 4lb foam and shaped it. Then laid plastic wrap over the foam and started laying glass. Popped the mold and screwed it in, then filled with foam. I began reshaping the rear corner back to original and laid glass on it tonight. Also just started on the right side mold. Same process as the left, and then on to turf!

If you have the time I totally suggest trying it out. You'll learn a valuable skill and have footholds custom fit to you!

I did something similar... only in a more half assed fashion. It seems really cool at first but when I was doing tricks, I couldn't keep my feet planted. They'd slide forwards and backwards all the time.

Alright I am ready for the stoning but I have been thinking about why not have 2 set's of foot hold's 2 forward and 2 toward's the rear?It seem's like there are alot of times a rider will change there surf stance from left to right depending on the angle they are approaching the wave or riding off of the wave. I am an observer not a surf rider just to be clear OK lol

Someone makes those. I want to say XFT but can't remember for sure.

may i ask why didnt you just shape the foam how you wanted and lay glass on top?

X2 Why didn't you just pour your foam in the gunnels and shape it directly and lay your glass? The way you did it now you have to seal all the edges of your foot hold/bar insert so they wont leak and water log your foam. BTW I do like the bar footholds, that style widens your tray considerably and you can place your foot anywhere along the bar foothold.

Originally I did it that way. It was a pain in the azz and it was tough to get it even. I found that they were too tall and even with extra padding, my foot seemed to slip. Also... I used the wrong king of resin. I've done it that way before but now that I've done it this way, I feel like its the "right" way to do it. (for me anyway) It takes more time, but both sides are exactly the same size just different lengths.

Yes it almost doubles the size of the tray when its all done.
