Here is a hard lesson I learned today...

So, over the years I've been saving up all the best Blaster parts I could find for this build I'm doing (that will be finished when I'm 50...but I digress).

Well, about 2 years ago, I find an absolutely perfect WHITE fuel tank. So I buy it, totally clean it out, and cover all the openings with brown paper, tape them all up, then wrap the entire tank in shrink wrap and put it up on the shelf.

Today, I pull the tank off of the shelf, unwrap it, and HALF OF IT IS COMPLETELY YELLOW!!!!

I have no idea why, but my advise to anyone trying to keep a white tank white is to not seal off all of the openings, no matter how clean the inside of the tank is. That's the only thing I can think of as to why this happened.

And worse yet, I recently sold another perfectly white tank that I stripped out of a parts ski BECAUSE I DIDN'T THINK I'D NEED IT, since I already had one.:chairshot:

that is a horrible experience!

Terrible story. I really appreciate nice restoration projects, cars and skis alike, but all the detail involved and those kinds of issues that come up along the way would drive me completely crazy. That is the reason I would rather admire other people's restos than do my own!

That is a lesson not easily earned.

almost everyone goes through the transition of owning both then realize they haven't ridden the blaster for over a year and sell it.

lol...yep..ewok will be the next one

I think the plastic yellows with age due to dehydration of the plastics.....

same way as a cataract in your eye works...the structure begins life perfectly clear, then yellows with age...it does so out of dehydration

the tanks also become more brittle with age, another characteristic of loss of water

thats my story and Im stickin' to it.

Yeah, I hate to admit it........but I've been riding the FX-1's all year pretty much. I started this latest Blaster build, oh, right after Daytona last year, and it's become one of those deals where I'm working WAY too freaking hard on it, spending WAY too much money on it, it's taking WAY to freaking long, causing me WAY too much frustration, and now that I'm getting it FINALLY finished, I hate to say it but it's like I don't even want the Blaster anymore.....
....and in the mean time, during all the stupid work and frustration over the last year, I just hop on one of my FX-1's every few days when I wanna ride, and it's just "hit the button and go", no screwing around, etc., then put it back in the garage every time. No issues. No headaches.

Funny thing: just change out the word "Blaster" for "wife", and change out "FX-1" for "girlfriend" and read it again.
(honest, wasn't on purpose, but funny none the less)

Here's a couple pics of the wife,,,,,ummm....I mean the Blaster.

Goes in on Monday for an awesome custom wrap job.
Blues, white, black, and some silvers. Gonna go down around to the edge of the first chine.

Goes back to Patric Miller in Orlando Friday for install of a brand new Solas Aggressor pump, and pick up the matching cut down seat and Jettrim cover that Jetmaniac is doing for me. Designed the seat myself, with only a little arm-twisting at Jettrim. I like their work a whole lot better than Hydroturf stuff, but that's just my opinion.

And Chris (jetmaniac)does an AWESOME seat cover install....better than the local "professionals" around here.

CarterB just finished the mat and pad install. I wanted to eliminate the plastic pieces in the rear, and he did a great job on it. Very nice, and cushy.
When it comes back from Orlando, I'll install the footstraps.

Also, since I'm a surf-only rider, notice the UMI steering. It's B1 on the bottom, B2 on the top for strength. I'd never seen this done before, and when I got the hull the parts were there, so I thought what the heck, let's see if it works.
(however, not sure about the ridges on the bars not matching up totally to the triple clamp. Hope it works. If it does, it's gonna be super strong. If it doesn't, I'll look like a complete idiot...again.)

The motor is a 6mm stroker, built by Riva (I'm over 800cc but I forget exactly what it is now) with ProX pistons, 6mm $1300 stroker crank, MSD total loss, extensive case and cylinder porting, Boyesen reeds, B Pipe with limited chamber, RPM girdled head, R&D intake manifold, dual mikuni's, Tau Ceti's, Triton stainless steel waterbox, Jet Dynamics EXTENDED (sweet! & rare) ride plate and intake grate, ODI ruffian grips, UMI bars, Blowsion billet throttle, Blaster800 stainless seat brackets, and a bunch of Blowsion stuff I'm too lazy to list.
We did a test-n-tune on flat water a few weeks ago before I dropped it off at CarterB's, and even with the 144mm pump and a 12/20 impeller, the thing just snorts out of the hole.
It's gettin' there. Should be ready before Daytona :banghead:
Can't wait to finish it so it can sit in the garage some more...:eek:uch:

Lovin' my FX-1's right now, though...:smlove2:
(but that could change any day)

I'll post some pics on it when I pick it back up.

Jetmaniac has done seat work in the past for me, and he's not the cheapest around BUT it will be PERFECT.
To me, that's everything.

My home away from home.
I rode my B1 when I first picked it up a couple months ago. It's fun. Different. Hadn't ride the RN in a few months, due to injury. Just rode it a few days ago. So much more fun to ride than the B1. Funny though... I'm still collecting parts and prepping for paint on the B1. Hmmmmm. Thanks for the pipe seats!
