help me pick out Bilge switch for the handlebars...

i have seen 3 different types of switches that can be mounted on the bars. 2 of them mount straight to the bar on the side of the on/off switch, the 3rd one actually mounts to the OEM yamah on/of switch, im not understanding how thats possibly since there is 3 functions on the unit and its not like a cap on top can be removed and replaced with a switch, can someone explain this to me please? All 3 are the same price... anyone have picstures of the switches mounted on the bars and which ones? i was thinking about drilling a hole in the hood for a switch but dont want to and i dont want to have a switch inside the hood compartment.. thanks!

1 and 2 are basically the same switch assemblies - 2 has the mounting bracket set in place. You replace the screws on the existing switch housing with the longer screws and some spacers that are supplied with the new switch, it cradles the Yamaha oem switch from the outside, no taking the oem apart.

Don't buy these switches!! They're a waste of money. Many people have had problems with them: the build quality is terrible and they don't last long at all. There are many options for a dash mounted switch, or just do what I do: pull the inline fuse out to switch the pumps off. I leave dual Attwood 500's running all day with no harm to them or my battery....

Yep, I'd have to agree here. I don't really see the point in running a bar mounted switch. The pumps draw bugger all power, so it's not like they are going to flatten your battery. Even though they are bar mounted, they are not that aesthetically pleasing, and they are still tough to push if for some reason you dont have them on all the time anyway.

Do yourself a favour and steer clear of them. Yes, they sound like a good idea, but you have to ask yourself...do you really need to turn your bilges off and on during a ride? One of my mates has just purchased one of the switches above (I won't say which as its not my personal experience) and on the first ride, the rubber boot assembly parted from the switch, and it happens pretty much every ride.
Granted, we are pretty hard on our boats here in Oz, but my dash mounted honeywell switch from JSS has never failed me, and it's not likely to be broken by kicking it in the surf.

Money better spent elsewhere....

Mine is 6 years old and I got it used. Never had a problem with it.

I have a bar mounted one from hot producs, its probably 1" square, easy to find and seems to work good so far, cant really comment on durability yet though.

We have three like the middle one and one with a switch where the fuel selector used to be.

BTW: One the numberous Hot Products Dealers on the Boards can hook you up or try Parker Yamaha too.
