Super Jet Help ID driveshaft?!

The shaft on the left was sold to me a few years ago as a used jetmaniac Superjet HD driveshaft, but when I installed it I had issues with it sliding too far forward in the bearings and it jammed up in the midshaft...so I shelved it and moved onto a different pump and shaft.

Just acquired the shaft on the right which is a known good jetmaniac HD Superjet driveshaft. You can see the difference in where the bearings seat, there is about an inch difference In the two but both shafts are the same length.

So know I'm not sure what the shaft on the left is? Anyone have any Input?

I want to say the shaft on the right is for a setback pump with that bearing spacing.

As for the one on the left, what is the overall length of it? Stock Superjet is something like 26" so if it's a tad longer, like 1/8" longer, it's likely built that way on purpose to give you a little bit extra spline engagement. It should slide right in unless your midshaft has been shifted backwards from impacts or if it was built and assembled with full engagement to a shorter shaft.

The shaft with the smaller bearing spacing jammed up on midshaft on an impact after a jump...clearly didn't realize the spacing when i put it together in first place.

They both appear to be 26 1/8 long

Looks like they would have worked with a double bearing setup?

I think the one with the shorter bearing area is off of a ski that had a 155 pump, so would require one bearing out of a 155 pump, rebuild kit it's a thicker bearing I have an old bearing out of a 155 but don't think I have a 144 to compare it to. Or I could be wrong why not ask @JetManiac since he made both?

You are correct, the 155 pump uses a thicker front bearing and that's what the other shaft is for. I'm not sure If you can put the thick bearing in a 144 pump, ill have to look at the pumps i have here

Thanks for the help guys...appreciate all the insite...that was my thought aswell l that it might be either a setback shaft or too run a double row bearing.

I do not know forsure that the driveshaft in question is actually from jetmaniac, that's just what it was sold to me as.

If it is a double row bearing could I run two regular bearings? Or does it have to be a double row bearing? Sorry have never seen one before so don't know the difference.

@JetManiac ...maybe you can help ID the shaft in question?

That is a Frankenstein shaft. It is definitely NOT a JetManiac shaft. All of our shafts are non tapered like the other one in your photos. It is definitely not one from a 155mm pump because there were no 155 pumps with tapered shafts.

The Frankenstein shaft started life as a standard 90-07 SJ driveshaft which are all tapered. Someone cut the front area just behind the front bearing to fit a second standard width bearing. You can see the relief line on the shaft where the back of the front bearing used to stop. It looks like it was cut for a second standard bearing from the looks of it, but you can measure it and compare to the other shaft.

Thanks so much Chris, that clears it all up...Wonder why this was done in the first place, doesn't seem to make much sense.

Question I guess now is...if it will fit 2 standard bearings stacked...is there any issue running it like that?

I have seen it done before. It should be fine just make sure your pump alignment is good.
