Has anyone seen tygon fuel lines rapidly change color to off white?

I've had tygon fuel lines on my skis for a couple of seasons now. They had started to discolor a bit with their age, but only slightly. Last week both my skis sat on the beach of lake michigan for a week, sometimes unattended. When I got them home last night and popped the hoods, all of my fuel lines had (over the course of this week) turned completely opaque and almost an offwhite color. This is a major change from the translucent yellow they started the week with.

I'm a little weirded out by this sudden change and am wondering if this is maybe a sign of some sort of (possibly intentional) gas contamination. Anyone seen anything like this before? Am I crazy to run the rest of this suspect gas out of them??

Weird thing is these lines are two seasons old and had only slightly changed color up to now. And they have also spent weeks sitting on this same beach like 5 different times now with nothing like this ever happening before.

The waves are up around here today so I guess I am about to find out one way or another...

:fingersx:

when you guys say tygon, are you sure you are actually using Tygon-brand tubing? I know for sure that "true" Tygon fuel-rated tubing is only available in translucent yellow, F-4040-A.

Not trying to be picky, just trying to point out that not all tubing is the same and you guys might each have different problems...

Mine is no doubt the 4040 tygon, sourced through mcmaster. Something is deff going on here because I have two diff skis that both had this happen to them at the exact same time and the lines are not the same age. Also, one is premix and one isn't so that rules out the new oil I just picked up. I think someone either sabotaged my tanks or I got bad or different gas at the pump.

is your pulse line tygon? discolored too?

if your answer is 'yes' to both of those questions, id say it isnt a fuel problem, because fuel doesnt (shouldnt) travel through the pulse line at all.

I left the pulse line oem because I don't think the tygon is rigid enough to send a clear pulse signal.

Would a ski run at all with e85 in the tank? It seemed to run perfectly normal today so I can't imagine it was e85 I was burning but I know that stuff attacks some materials that gasoline doesn't. Or maybe there is a new fuel additive in my area that did it??

I bought the High Octane rated lines from www.fuellines.biz and they all discolored within a few months. I looked back at the site because I thought these lines weren't supposed to break down but they never make any mention of the color staying as original. All my lines are still just as flexible and tough as when installed, just not as bright as they used to be. :dunno:

i think under the faq tab it says something about using alcohol to bring the color back. my problem with it is when its new it fits real tight. dont take long and its loose. the black stuff at the parts store isnt as pretty but probally a lot better.

Well, to make weird weirder, they are back to normal now. The only thing I can imagine is that the lines were empty and it was a very fine condensation coating the inside. Whatever it was, it happened to two completely different skis and they are both back to normal now.

Carry on!
