Good Idea For The Site!

We should get our sponsors to donate a gift once a month that is given away to a random picked donating member! This would help to increase donations for the site. Sound like a cool Idea?? I saw this on one of my truck forum sites and thought it would be interesting to try over here.

Paul, I like the idea, but I would change the words "donating member" to "member".
Some of us spend more that they can afford on promoting the sport, supporting and organizing events, etc., etc.

I like the idea.

It's like a lottery. Every ten bucks gets you a monthly recurring entry, you can only win once per year.

Hell, it's a great idea!

Prizes can be small, like X-H20 decal sets, or kick-ass FPP water screws, or ODI grips, or MSD plug boots, or Full Spectrum 48s, well probably not the FSs.

Exactly, Dosent need to be anything super expensive.. I wouid be stoked winnign something as simple as a set of grips! I also think the site supporters (Advertisers and Companies) would have no problem donating little things for this purpose. Also, even if a company dosent have a banner on the site, simply donating a product for giveaway would be great advertising for that month. We could do a post talking about the company and what they donated for this months giveaway... GREAT ADVERTISING!

Sorry, but the idea was thought of as a way to raise revenu for the site so we dont come here one day and find that it was shut down because there was not enought money to keep it a float. They can make it like a $10 dollar yearly donation required to be in the raffle.

The site does not need raffles to raise money. All Darin had to do last time is hint that donations would be appreciated, and the money flooded in.:woot:

This site is by riders for riders, and I for one don't mind pitching in $5 more every once in a while, on behalf of someone that is struggling to afford to ride.

All Darin needs to do is ask, and I'm sure the site will be taken care of by the Riders...

We should not differentiate between those that can donate, and those that cannot.

This would be a way for the site and sponsors of the site to give back to those who pitched in to help out the site. Your missing the point. I know everyone donated my self included.. But who dosent like free stuff? And it also gives a company an oppertunity to get some publicity for a month without having to purchase a banner. IDK maybe the idea sucks. I thought it was cool but whatever......

OK, so whats the big deal? If someone cant afford $10 dollars a year to support the site... thay wont have an oppertunity to win anything... Its not like thay wouldent have anything the site wasnt already giving them.

I guess my point is that there are more ways of supporting a site, than financing it.

It could be argued that a person that assists others with problems on the site, does more to support the site than someone that pays money. Why should he miss out on a sponsor giveaway?

Just giving my $.02

This is a nice idea, but the sponsors have already paid for advertising and you want them to kick in more for a specific group?

For now we'll just go the way we are, if people are happy with the site and what we're trying to do, they can contribute $$ to keep us going, if not, that's fine, and there is nothing special done for supporters currently.

Based on past experience, I know that making contributors 'special' is a big no-no to some people and just introduces problems. We may try to do t-shirts or a sticker pack or something, but nothing has been decided yet.

Also, based on our server load this week and the amount of attachments we have, we'll have to move to a dedicated server in a few months. That will almost double our monthly costs.

Currently we have around $1200 in the paypal account and with $109/month hosting fees (plus domain registrations coming up) that's about 11 months' worth. The dedicated server will be ~$200/month plus a setup fee so that money will deplete pretty quickly once we have to move that way, but it will allow us to double our bandwidth and have 12 times as many attachments.

very smart.......... if u guys ever wanna talk to someone who saw a site become VERY fawked up because they tried to transform it from a place for riders by riders to a place that makes money off riders shoot me a pm....... im never afraid to give an outsiders lookin in view point....... buisness is buisness........ it cant be personal......... this site to its members seems very personal

I like the idea for the future. Since the site will be needing more money to keep running, the site can hold raffles. It doesnt need to be a "sponsored raffle". Just say Darin ( or someone else) bought some 30 dollor grips and raffled it to the members for like 5$ per raffle ticket. An in house raffle that is fare to everyone and is all about helping the site. Its no different from the raffles we do at our freerides etc.

I could see doing raffles possibly. That way you participate if you want to .

Me and IDOK could raffle off some conacts.

I could also raffle off a half hour phone conversation with me detailing EXACTLY how to be as cool as I am. Hell, that might pay for the next few years of service.
