Girdle bolts with stroker?

Bought a new set of girdle bolts from ADA (ADA head on Lamey stroker +6). My old ones always get crappy, and I have a hard time chasing the threads with my 10x1.25 taps.

Studs aren't really long enough. I can't bottom them in the case or I barely have threads on the head-side (so I had to back them out of the case about 2 turns to get the acorn nuts to get purchase)

Realized tonight that ADA isn't providing metric fasteners (my old nuts were a 14mm drive, and these new ones are just a shade loose with a 15mm wrench). Turns out they are 3/8" and the pitch, as I recall, is 20.

Was thinking about buying new studs or bolts but 10x1.25 is VERY uncommon (can't get it in stainless of any decent length from McMaster-Carr and several other places). The 3/8 by 20 is also very hard to find. ADA must substitute it since they can't find the metric (and the 3/8-20 is really close, my thread pitch gauge for 1.25 seemed a perfect fit until I looked REAL close...)

Anyway, who knows where I can get longer studs or bolts?
Would one of the other style kits (you bolt the cylinder to the case and those bolts are threaded to accept the girlde bolts) work (like the RIva style?) Most posts I've been able to find say ADA is better than the Riva style, but it seems the RIva would make it easier to get longer bolts... Riva site doesn't give any details about the girdle H/W...

have you tried putting the ada studs in upside-down?

works great for my taller-than-ada speedworx head!

I thought of that (so the stud would bottom out sooner in the case),but I kinda wanted to get the better purchase in the case. I'm still able to torque it all down, only problem is I'm not getting as much thread in the case as I'd like (I'm sure it's still plenty..)

Guess I will turn them upside down and be done with it.. Thanks for the quick reply

I've gotten metric stainless here before and they have the size and pitch you want. Not cheap though.

http://www.boltdepot.com/

Not only not cheap, but also not in stainless. Only 10mm stainless they list is 1.5 pitch. They have it in the metric "fine thread" but not stainless, and 110mm is the longest.

get the +10mm longer studs from ADA

Don't see them anywhere on the ADA site, all I found are http://www.adaracing.com/parts/watercraft-fithar-all/18 They call them "10mm" but they aren't "+10mm", just 10mm diameter (actually 3/8", those bastards!)

I'll flip mine upside down so they bottom sooner and just live with having less (but still sufficient) threads in the case (unless the +10mm ones really exist....)

Are the ADA studs the same on each end? I didnt think they where the same thread pitch on both but I drink to much.

I know that the nuts that come in the ADA kits ARE 10mm X 1.25. I'm pretty sure that ADA buys them in bulk and then sends them out to get chrome plated, this is the reason you need to use a 9/16 socket on them as now they are a little too big to fit the original 14mm size before plating. 2 turns shouldn't be a problem on the stud height in the cases.
I have milled most of my ADA heads with a countersink to help this problem on the taller Lamey cylinders.

Do you really think that plating adds so much material a socket no longer fits? Not poo-poo'ing, I just find it hard to believe.

countersinking the head is an ingenious solution.....take it to a machine shop and get it done.....as usual props for Chucky on that one.

get some round stock SS and cut it to length....then get a die and run it down it.......make your studs......i have not done this but i would if i needed to...good idea?....yes....no?

Blaster for life....Bad idea! The ADA studs are very good quality studs with rolled threads, this is why they don't break anymore! (Marv and Brooks spent a LOT of time developing these studs)
Your way won't work as all you'll do is break studs!!!
Been there done that!

Prem1x...I wouldn't state anything I didn't believe, I have been using ADA parts since they came out.
