getting Zapped.

My buddie is getting zapped from his metal throttle lever. Any ideas... It is a 2002 SXIPRO. :highhorse:

Is he running a bilge pump switch on the bars ??

See if the throttle cable hasn't worn through a wire somewhere.

mine did that till i rerouted the throttle cable away from the battery!

Its a stocker. Maybe the white start/stop switch plug got salt water in it shorting the switch out?

I had that problem in surf last year. My plug boots were not insulated well enough, and whenever the engine got some water on it, I would get zapped.
Progressively hard the more I pulled on the throttle.

dielectric inside the spark plug boots should stop it, My buddies was doing the same thing last weekend.

I'd bet its the s/s switch








does it shock you if you touch the bars as well?

Every time it has happened to me its been the bilge switch,, any exposed wire that is "hot" and gets wet can do it..
When you sink your ski in salt water just reaching in the water in the hull the battery will light your eyes up !

A long time ago I always used cheap toggle switches and man, one time in Ventura I couldnt even hold onto the bars, touch the ski anywhere/anytime.. I had to knock the wire off with a stick !

my 550 did it in freshwater.. The start/stop switch was getting water into it..

if it is an exposed wire that is hot it would shock all the time, if it is shocking when the motor is running then i would guess plug boots.

put another earth strap to the battery to the motor if you start getting a poor conductive earth cable it will use the throttle cable as a earth

dont most negative cables go straight to the motor? I believe my SXR one does...not 100% sure though...

but I've heard salt in plug boots as well...I agree

I had a bilge wire rub on the driveshaft on my 93 xs and it shocked the shiat out of me .Not fun at all :grumble:

Man of all the problems I've run into...and I've run into more than I ever want to admit...happily this hasn't happened yet.
