Fx1 + SXR= 08+ Superjet?

Currently, I own a Fx1 and SXR, and really like both, but sometimes feel like niether does exactly what I want at times.

The SXR is great in choppy water, hooks up great, carves very nicely, but is obviously heavy and in great lakes surf (3-4 ft waves, closely space) and boat wakes, it just doesnt like to jump out of the water. A lot fun on flat water as well, and fast.

On the flip side the Fx1 is great to run on flat water, carves okay, launches out of the water on a cleanly setup wave, and is great to do freeriding on. But when I get out on a choppy lake 2-3 ft boat waves from all directions, I get beat up as the hull doesn't do to well on those waves. Plus with the stock pump, unless you get a running start it doesnt hook up well enough to get last minute thrust to launch off a wave.

So more and more I've been thinking the newer hull 08 + Superjet is the ticket. It should carve well and handle well + hook up well in rougher water (2-3 ft "chop"), but at the same time jump well. Basically a hybrid of an Fx1 and SXR.

I wanted a superjet when I was buying the SXR, but the price different pushed me torwards the SXR. Now the newer superjets at the end of the season are coming down in price. So I am thinking of selling the SXR and getting the 08+ Superjet. (Keep the Fx1)

Ive read a bunch of threads on the newer 08 superjet, but am still a bit in question. Some people say it carves just as well as the SXR, some don't. At the same time some people say the SXR handles rough chop much better still than the Superjet. These two questions still make the decision a toss up to me.

I've ridden older SN superjets, and it was nothing like the SXR. Im looking for the playfulness of the FX1 with the handling of the SXR.

Is the 08+ superjet that?

Thanks

Ummm...yes. I rode an 08 superjet a few times and loved how it handles. Not quite as stable as an SXR but miles in improvement over the older SJ hulls. I have yet to ride on older SJ hull with tubbies but I hear that is pretty good as well. I have been kicking around the same idea as well. I need something lighter and a little more playful with the handling of a SXR.

Rollins,

By not quite as stable as the SXR what exactly do you mean by that? One of the highlights of the SXR hull to me is the flat water flat carving. Even with the stock ride plate it just hooks turns perfectly, where you can basically scrape the water with your side. It also does great in choppy water. Great hull minus the weight, and limited jumping potential.

I just wish I could ride an 08 sj. Id just buy it and try it, but owning 3 stand ups is a bit wasteful to me.

IF anyone can provide some specific comments on the 08+ superjet handiling vs the sxr that'd be great!

08 out handles the sxr in my opinion but still not as stable in the chop. primarily because of weight and the hull is a little shorter.

i run another set of tubbies on top of the stock ones on mine ,trust me mine can rail.

just bounces around like a sj in heavy chop

My 09 handles Hands down better then the sxrs I have ridden in stock form but when I added a head and a pipe it became more like an sxr as far as comeing un assed in every turn you didnt completly let off the throttle in. Still running stock intake grate and plate but have plans to change. My 09 would hardly break loose before I added a head, pipe and enhancer... now it breaks free alooootttt easier.

Mate i have had a 06 SXR for a year and i had the a 03 superjet and was just recently tossing up between buying another SXR or the new Superjet.

Hated the 03 as it didnt handle at all and sold it a month later.

I rode the New superjet and the first 100 meters i was blown away. This thing is actually way better to ride than the SXR. I actually thought it was easier to ride beccause of the power to weight ratio etc and easier to rail turns. It will out handle the SXR any day of the week. But the thing is also ssoooooo light. I could pop it off boat wakes easy as and im not a light guy at 240lbs.

I would say its SXR + Old superjet = New superjet.

You wont regret it.

THanks for the advice guys.

I put the SXR up for sale, and it basically sold in 1 day. A guy is coming to pick it up today.

I mean I loved the SXR, but its only fault is the weight. One of those trinity composite lightweight hulls would be awesome.

I should be picking up an 08-09 shortly as well. I Really just want to set it up as a great all around boat. Carves well, and at the same time be able tp jump well.

I bet a tbm ride plate and a new intake grate make the newer Sjs handle even better.

Once I ride the new one Ill put up a detailed view of what I found.

Well guys,

I found a great deal on a new 09 superjet, ~5900 OTD new so I bought it over the phone. Now I just need to drive to pick it up next week. A bit sad I won't be able to ride it his year, but it certainly is the time to buy now.

I guess I finally got to the eventual path of "get a superjet"

i have a 91 an 03 and a friend has an 08.....and i aften ride a buddies SXR i hate the 03 and it has sponsons.....just not a super handleing ski, the 08 on the other hand is a better handleing maching then the SXR but being it is lighter it doesn't take the chop as well.....the SXR is always going to be better in chop because of the wieght......my fav ski is still the 91...lol not for handleing or chop....just because...

Hey guys,

Well I finally got a chance to ride the superjet, after all this waiting. Bottom line, selling the SXR was a GREAT idea.

I had ridden the Fx1 a couple times this year, and I was anxious again to do some carving similar to what the SXR could do. With all the hype on the 08+ superjet handling, I was a bit curious to see how it would do.

And man, was everyone right. The 08+ superjet handles much better than the SXR. The sxr was a flat carver, meaning it would carve well, but you had the keep the hull flat, it wouldn't like to lean over (stock), or else the back end would slide out. With the superjet, it just leans into curves and carves for it. It it incredible, exactly what I wanted.

I have only ridded a stock SXR; my brother owns one. I feel like I am standing at the back of RMS Titanic when im in the tray. I would rather ride a stock 650sx over a stock 800sxr. The pre 2008 SJ's I can't get used to either. The 08' rules as far as im concerned. I have ridded a 1996 SJ with Blowsion tubbies, not sure which ones though. I thought it still didn't handle well. I would love an aftermarket hull but I am afraid I would hate the handling.
