Fractured Displaced Clavicle Daytona 2007

On Sunday, while at Daytona, a huge wave started to crest over me before I could reach its peak. The Jet-Ski flipped over backwards with me still on it and landed on the back side of the wave with the engine stalled out. I turned the ski back over and tried to restart the engine and it would not fire over. That's when another huge wave hit and through me from the ski tumbling under water. The ski impacted me behind my left shoulder and knocked my helmet off. I started to swim back to the ski, which was about 30’ feet away and noticed that my left arm started making popping noises. I glanced down at my left shoulder and noticed that it was further forward than usual. So I pushed it back into place and tried swimming to the ski with one arm. The ski was going further towards the shoreline, so I ended up swimming backwards to find my helmet, which was closer and used it as a device to cup the water while swimming with my right hand. Once I got back to the ski, I eventually got it started and ran it back to the beach, which was then out of the ski zone due the current dragging me northward. After going to the ER, x-rays revealed a fractured displaced clavicle with two broken fragments. I will be seeing an Orthopedic Surgeon tomorrow for the good news. I hope they can patch me up with super glue and duct tape so I can go riding again soon.

id use contact cement. be sure to sand all mating surfaces with 30 grit paper and clean with acetone before applying.

that sucks! i know exactly the tumbling-in-the-wash feeling youre talking about..... minus the popping noises. get well

Not fun! :banghead: You'll be walking around like your looking for a fight for the next 8 weeks, shoulders back. Those braces suck. Sorry to hear it. It was cool meeting you and the Clearwater/St Pete crew this weekend.

Dude...you need lots of surgery. Many plates and pins. Dont let them tell you it will heal O.K. It will sag and cause worse problems with nerves and veins.

I'm pretty sure it's going to need surgery from the x-rays. When it happened I didn't even notice any pain until I started swimming. I still have full range and motion of my arm and the pain is not too bad but I'm expecting it to get worse soon.

dang Chris... that doesn't look pretty at all. I broke mine years ago and it didn't look nearly as bad as yours does. I was suprised you were so carefree and seemingly painfree afterwards on the beach. Here's hoping all goes as well as expected and to a speedy recovery! Let us know if we can help you out anyway.

Yeah thats what I'm saying. He acted like it didn't hurt at all. Even the medics on the beach didn't think he broke it because he wasn't complaining that much about the pain.

Get well Chris:biggthumpup:

Big Thanks to Chuck from Team Scream Racing.  He volunteered to drive Chris's truck with Chris's and my ski back to Clearwater with an anxsious Mrs. Supertune waiting for him to get home:biggrin: .

this has been a life saver for me, been about 8 years ago, every now and then my shoulder goes out, i put this on for a while, wear one out about once a year, but they are cheap, and yes, i wear it in the water, it holds up fine, just leaves a funny tan line, the guys @ last year lake ozark ride would probably remeber, mouthfulloflake might even have some old pics

you're one tough S.O.B.! Give a call if you need anything. I think our crew took a good beating. Dan - put up your leg-gina. I would take a pic of my Azz but that wouldn't give an indication of how my tailbone feels.:frown:
