when you pull the carb off and apart, the easiest way to make sure you put it together correctly is to lay it out piece by piece on a clean work area. the diaphram is most likely the culprit if it is infact a carb issue. (sounds like it is). if its stuck to the cover or brittle, replace it. if you need help or can't remember how it goes back togther, go here http://216.37.204.203/yamaha_OEM/YamahaPWC.asp?Type=13&A=38&B=1

this will show you the exploded view of your carb..this is simple man, you can do it. just watch what and how you take it apart..

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Mouthfuloflake- That's awesome man. I have been studying the diagrams given to me here and others that I found online and it doesn't seem like rocket surgery, but it would be great to have someone guiding me for my first time (kinda like sex) I have a huge analysis paper due on Monday, but I should be done with it around 7 (looks like you're central also). If I dont finish, I will work on it tuesday. Just in case, are you free then? BWT....Tell your model I said thanks and his caufro is awesome!

Keefer, shonuff, extreemthrottle,Fathom, and hangtime- Thanks for the advise guys! The diagrams and video have/will come in handy. John at Jet Ski Solutions saw my thread and emailed me that he has fuel filters for 3.70 so I think I'm going to get it from there...going to wait to see if I need anything for my carb first so that, if I do, I can just order it all together.

Thanks again guys! I will report back soon

Not sure about Tuesday night yet, might have to work.

just PM me ahead of time, and well work it out.

I need to open one up and get some jets changed anyway.

Update:

I took the carb apart and found a few things. When I took apart the section that contains the pulse valve and the diaphram, there was salt in there. The diaphram was even stuck to the section. There is a pic below.

When I took apart the regulator chamber, there were a few problems. As you can see in two of the pics below, there was a ton of salt everywhere- Around the needle seat and around the jets. When I took out the high speed adjuster needle, it had salt on in tip, so I am assuming there is salt down in there as well. I'm just going to spray about a whole can of carb cleaner in the jets and every where else.

*Cant get pics to download for some reason. It says they were downloaded in my gallery, but it still says I have 0 files. Oh well...just imagine a lot of salt in there that, in some areas, have formed tiny salt rocks.*
Thanks!

on the gallery, you have to place them in there.

you have to assign them to a folder, and you have to make the folder first.

the gallery is cool, but its a HUGE pain in the ASZZZZ

So here is an update....

I cleaned the carb and got all the salt out. Put the carb back on and the Jet wouldn't start...it was the starter. I bought another starter and put it on last night and it wouldn't start. I put new spark plugs on today and it fired right up. I took it to the water and it had the same problems as it did before!!! The carb is jetted correctly.

I got it home and took off the flame arrestor and started it. Fuel is coming out of the hole on the venturi. So it is getting fuel! I don't know if it is just not getting enough when I increase the amount of air to the engine (when I rev it up). It seems that if fuel is coming out at idle and a light rev, then more would come out at a high rev.

Also, I checked the spark when holding the pulg to the engine block. I dont know how large the spark is supposed to be. The spark that I'm getting about the width of of four hair strands put together....fairly thin. Does this seem right? Wish I had some pictures to compare it to. I dont even know if a weak spark could cause these problems.

Does anyone have any idesa on what I should do? Buy a new carb even know I really can't afford it? Should I buy a new CDI? I really want to get this fixed so I can at least ride the new-to-me 701 before it gets too cold!! Thanks guys!

How many turns out from closed are your low and high speed jets?

Is there a family of dead squirrels in your waterbox?

I have 2 turns on the high and 1/2 turn on low. That's what Protec recommended.

And holy shi* Shonuff!! I opended up the waterbox and there were four dead squirrels in there....well three were dead and the other was alive, but I went ahead and finished it off. Could that have been the problem? Damn squirrels.

I did not soak the carb. I shot the cleaner in all the passageways that I could see.

One more odd thing that I forgot to mention.....when I took the Jet out on the water, it would not even rev up as high as it would when I first started having the problems....and this is after the carb cleaning :banghead:

Thanks
