Ok now for some real input,Seadoo used to have 5mm allen head plugs that went into the very bottom of the crankcase,That I believe would be worth while especially on a freestyle engine that might be subject to water ingestion. It took only a 5mm allen wrench and a couple of minutes to drain the water out of the engine and it didn't have to be spun over to do it.Seal them up back with locktite 515 on the threads and you have no worries.I see no reason you could not weld bungs on the bottom of the crankcase on a Yamaha and do the same thing.

Brings up another point. How can running the motor REALLY clean that crank GOOD after a saltwater sinking?

what we are talking aboutis runningthe engine imediatly after the sinking , right after bringing it in to the dock ,, drain water crankover get it runnin and take it for a ride .. .. thats what I hink we all mean by runningthe engine .. not runnig at after a few days .. then its too late .. Ithink you got luck getting taht many tanks full of runningafter it was in that shape .. but on a older ski wher eit realy doest matter what the hell go for it !
I have a old 650 kawi engine I am thinking about running like that .. the crank spins "fairly " smooth .. I feel its realy done anyways ,, but It will still cost me a case and top end.. if i get some good time out of it I win ., if not i loose LOL

As stated Kawasaki 650 & 750's had crankcase drains. They worked for removing water after you sunk instaed having to blow all the water out the plug holes.
These crankcase drains suck because if the ball check didn't seat properly you can have a nice air leak and blow your motor. Kawasaki got smart and no longer uses crankcase drains.
The reason to get a motor running after sinking it is to get it hot. You want the motor to get rid of any moisture and lube everything at the same time.

There is something to be said for being able to drain the water out without having to spin the engine over, the whole time you are spinning it over you are washing all the lubrication off the cylinder walls, crank bearings etc.No lubrication means metal to metal contact which means at the least premature wear on the components.

I have sunk a number of skis in saltwater (only place I ride). As long as you get it running same day (MAYBE next day) and run at least a tank through it you won't have a problem IMO. I probably sank my original SN 650 10 times and rode that thing probably 20 hours a week during the season and another 5-10 off season. Never needed a rebuild after 4 years. That thing didn't owe me a penny when I sold it.

With slatwater, just get it running ASAP.

Not to mention if there is enough water in one cyl to cause a hydro lock if the other fires the first time you try to crank it after sinking it. You will get the old bent rod treatment and will be buying a crank. This is not rocket science here, just get the dang thing running ASAP after you fill it with water and fog the crap out of it after you ride it to clear out the water. The longer you wait the more parts you will probably have to buy sooner than later.

Ever seen how a washing machine works?:woot:

Just because its the way everyone does it dosen't mean there isn't room for improvement.
