Engine mounts and coupler busted AGAIN!

I broke my pipe side engine mounts and bent my driveshaft and broke my coupler. It was a roll attempt off a boat wave and the ski hit hard.

This is not a good time.

Does anyone have any ideas to make the mounts more durable?

Do kenny keepers work?

I assume the wetpipe is lighter which would help I'm sure. I can't afford to keep doing this. This has happened twice. Any sorce for mounts or driveshaft?

Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for anyone who feels like chiming in.

Look for a local Straightener for the driveshaft. (Yes there are shops that just straighten things!) They should do it for about $20-30. I would just stop in...It should only take about 10 minutes.

Here ya go...

I still have my stock 2003 motor mounts...It must be that heavy stock pipe. I've slammed mine down hundreds of times! I would get some keepers...they should help!

Kenney Keepers will not help you at all if you break the mounts inverted.

That is what I was thinking. I am pretty sure the mounts are breaking vertically. The motor seems to be rotating towards the carbs, not forward or back.

Thanks guys for the info!

Damn! You must be slammin HARD! Seriously, call that straightener about the shaft. Actually, I think I only paid $10 to have mine done and it was perfect to the .001 of an inch!

Thanks Korn!

I will definately be checking that place out.

I don't mind breaking stuff,. I just don't like breaking stuff twice. lol

Maybe I will take my other bent shaft from last year and have that fixed as well.

I roll to the left and broke the same motor mounts each time (2 under the pipe). That heavy pipe has got to go.

i know this is is an old post but it got me think'n (and thats always bad). So I went over to my buddies shop & played with his lathe & mill & this is what I came up with.
these would take care of the mount breakage problem but they may cause unwanted vibration. urethaine bushing & through bolted for support,
what do you think?
I need to get a little bit longer bolt for my alum bed plate but these should work for a stocker.

if i make these right I wont need kenney keepers to hold the forward/lateral movement & it will be well supported in the case of inverted (bad) landings.
It may how-ever rip the mount bolts out of the hull or crack/break the mount base. I have another quickie reinforcement set-up I put together today & will cut tomorrow that I hope to run in daytona on my 07. If i dont get any nasty vibrations I will continue the project or try a different composition of bushing.

The down side is; to install these, i think it will be necesary to pull the exhaust & then the motor & install the mounts loose to the plate. Then install the unit into the hull, start the 8 hull bolts in & then tighten every thing down. Its not a big deal but makes a little more work to install.
the up side is; all four mounts can be stabilized & the mounts are tuns stronger. If I can find the correct configuration bolts in stainless I will make them that way but I havent yet (work'n on it) but for testing I'll use these 10.8 bolts
I think this set up will work very well once I get the logistics worked out.
I will have a set (4 mounts in pics) available in daytona that should work w/a stock bed plate. if someone wants to give them a try & give feed back. should take about a half hour to install.

thanks in advance for any feedback

this would be the next weak link. I know it sucks, but would you rather try to reglass the inserts or replace mounts? what if it cracked the hull or pulled a bunch of the hull with it? ouch. just something to think about. I think everyone who has broken mounts has toyed around with this idea. best bet is to land the roll. not only will this stop the carnage but also make you a hero!

So true, so true. :barrel:

well i have a set made that will work with a stock bed plate. I ended up using a m 10 bolt 10.9 hrd and cut the head down. stainless fender washer & the urethain bushing I cut on a lathe to get the shape I wanted.

I did not get a chance to run them in daytona as I ran out of time & chose to ride instead of wrench.

I have the proper length bolts to make the monster mounts work with the aluminum bed plate I have from jet ski haven. I have to use a longer bolt & cut the threads longer as the shoulder is to deep. not that much more work but its time consuming. I should have those done this week

Busy this week with some training courses & work but i'll get back at it soon. I'm not in a huge rush now since the only ones on the water now are ice fishermen & snowmobiles

are 750 mounts the same? yes, the ones in the pic are 650 mounts. I will use my sxr mounts and add the kit to them.

anyone want to test a set and give some feed back?:scratchchin::scratchchin:

I really like this idea... I really want to try this on some SJ mounts. Seems like it would not only be cheaper than kenny keepers but also would be more effective. I'm not really interested in trying these in my 750 but definitely in a SJ.

Where did you get the urethane bushing from?
