I'm with you on the parking. Nobody (NOBODY) launches in the winter time where I ride, so I park the van on the ramp.

I guess the best way to explain it would be if u flipped ur picture up side down? Wher you have the bottom of the lake in ur pic, flipped over it would now be the parking lot,, the water dosnt chang more than a few feet on this lake from spring till fall,, but come fall they open the damn and it drops drastically, so in the summer ur vehicle doesn't leave the parking lot, and only your trailer just barely starts down the ramp,, now the water is down probly 10 feet you have to back all the way down a steep, short ramp to hit the water... The lake up river, ( actually were we ride 90% of the time) the water starts dropping in spring and is pretty steady drop til winter, they drain that lake to keep this one full... So that's why the level dosnt change till way late in fall... Not sure if that's explains what I mean,,??

2nd. It's the end if november in Ohio! No one is boating,, so the fact that I can look at this ramp from my kitchen, and see theirs no one commibg or going all week, plus the fact that thiet other ramps on site,,, how does that make me an inconsiderate boob??? Explain? Don't act like I pulled my Richard out at church or something,, I parked in the ramp, just like everyone elese does when they know it's ok to..

I see what he's getting at by saying "the ramp is steeper" - in the summer, he's most like not actually on the ramp - but on the approach when the trailer hits the water.

winter time - water level is lower, so the wheels of the van are actually on the ramp.

same here at our lake. the ramps get "steeper" as the lake falls. hehe.
And GM products are great, I have 252k on my 6.6L '02 chevy:wiggle:
The 4.3L is used in ALOT of boats. If you do the maintenance, it'll last.

yeah, I don't really imagine boat ramps are in high demand in November in Ohio.

also thought the "inconsiderate boob" might have given it away.

down here - if you'd have done that - you'd find your van in the parking lot with the doors locked and the keys under one of the tires.

Lol, thanks,, I think I'm getting "astro 4 life" tattoed on my chest!! Every one refers to my vans as the shaggin waggon. Usually followed by a number! I have video of my jumping the shaggin waggin jr.( my 2nd one). But I don't know if I can paste the link on here from an I phone .. On you tube it's called "purple swirley" it's about 3/4 threw.

here it is! its at 3:29. btw, this was a long time ago, when home edited video was kinda new, we thought we were real cool with this video! lol

A little off topic, but on the topic of ramp mishaps... This year i saw a jetski (sit down) get dropped off the trailer (no bow strap) onto the pavement, I saw a pontoon on a Load Rite trailer roll off onto the ramp, and of course the always ammusing skeg getting drug off from not trimming drives up. When your on the waters edge at a ramp all day, you see some stuff. :haha:

i never rely on the parking brake. the one in my chevy express doesnt work anyway. to avoid the dreaded rolling down the ramp stituation, i always back down and keep the right side of the vehicle and trailer close to the right side as im backing in. once i stop, i turn the wheel all the way to the right, so if it dows roll down, itll hit the side of the dock and stop. just dont keep the wheels straight and it wont back all the way in the water. youll just dent the bumper.

i used to have a 95 gmc safari (same as astro). i put 205,000 miles on it before driving it to the dealer and trading it in for my express van.

long live the 4.3!

Not all ramps are linear, and some are curved at the bottom, which would make the ramp more steep the lower the water level is...
