Driveshaft carnage

Happened while I was riding today. All of a sudden I didn't go anywhere.
I thought I had stripped the splines.
When I unbolted the pump, it just about smashed my face in. At that point I realized something was off.

I don't know anything about metal, so what makes you think it has been broke for a while?

Half of it is darker discolored you can see the new break is brighter new looking. Get a brass 90 deg. elbow before you put that pump back in and ditch the steel ace haedeware plumber fitting lol

Bahahahaaaa!

That fitting is awesome.
It's been in there for a few years now, but you're right - it's time to change that thing.

I am considering going to a mag pump. We'll see.

DON"T throw the parts away.

Heat the front half and bend it 90 degrees. That gives you an awesome midshaft coupler tool. The back half can be welded to to a plate (or a trailer hitch) and becomes a good prop holder for repitching.

You should have been using the impeller rubber nose cone to keep shaft from breaking in that area.

The impeller nose cone was on there, right where it should have been. I just took it off after I took the pump out.

just weld a nut on the back side of the shaft. lock it in the vice. have a vibration before it snaped? i bet you did. check your motor alinement. this will snap drive shafts also.

No vibration, except for the half second before.
I was fairly confident in the alignment, but you can bet I'll double-check it.
