I thought the whole point of Lanier was spending a good chunk of the day chasing the great cruiser wake that's generated there. Hence, more jumping waves than doing hoodtricks.djkorn1 said:Is Lanier a 'Freestyle' Event?.?.?:cool2:
Freeride - The act of becoming one with your watery surrounding without the limitation of rules. Accepting and respecting the power of water. And last but not least, hanging with pals while riding extreme.
the major influence of freeriding is surfing. Look at the top freeriders, joe kenney, taylor curtis, jerry brandon. They all ride without footholds, because with your feet side by side you have no style surfing a wave, and style is a huge part of surfing, and true freeriding.
My mistake, I thought I'd read differently recently. :dunno:masterblaster said:these 2 sound spot on for freeride, along with kissing everyones ass that doesnt want you there.
wavedemon, wavejunkies are no longer a group of couchers, where you been,.might be slow learners but we all eventually made it.lol

I know I have posted this pic before on the other site, but it is the only one I have in digital formatt...

Let 'em have it. I like motosurf.Mike Serlin said:If people start calling some form of lake riding freeriding, then us surf riders are going to need to find a new term, cuz what we do is like nothing else.

But as far as jumping cruiser wakes at Lanier, Not freeriding, IMO. wakes are not waves, i don't care how big they are. Waves have some very special characteristics
No ****? I did not know that...yamaslut said:Motosurf is a registered name... Ya got to pay for it from now on

freeriding, i think, does need to be different than freestyle.
freestyle is ultimately flatwater riding, namely tricks using your own wake or none whatsoever. need we go back to basics?
freeride involves surf, and to the N. America that means west/east coasts, gulf, and great lakes. if you dont ride there, you're not freeriding. i would dare say freeriding is simply tricks with aid of waves.
i'm not sure you need to coin the term for jumping wakes, if there is one. at some point its just fooling around.
Ross_C said:Just my input...freeriding is not simply tricks with the aid of waves, the "surfing" is a huge part of it. And the tricks that are done is a totally different aspect of it.
There are freeriders that I ride with and have a lot of respect for who don't even do nose stabs...they are there to "surf" and that is exactly what they do. And there are a larger percentage of guys that will do a few stabs, etc. but are primarilary out there doing surf moves. IE) cutbacks, snaps, floaters, reentries, the occasional barrel, etc.
To me that is a good portion of what freeriding is about, and that is why it is not freestyle with waves thrown in as ramps. You can ride in the surf with that mentality, but IMO if you do that you are missing the point almost completly.
All this being said...I dont give a poop what you call freeride I think the freeride tour is great for the sport and you guys w/ out surf can call what you are doing what ever you want...but if flat water stuff begins to be considered freeride, then there should be another name for what is done in the surf...
For me Freeride = Surf
But I still don't know what you should call flat water stuff...possibly freestyle? Just a thought...
