So here it is, this is my project for the next few months. I HOPE to have it done for Daytona but who knows what will happen. It will definitely be my flatwater ski for next year. It will be built to be light but strong and a solid boat for AM Freestyle.

I wanted to do a topdeck conversion because i dont really have any winter hobbies beside school and a part time job so i gotta do something to fill my time. And i dont have the cash to buy a Matrix hull :banghead:

Im unsure of what top deck i want to use yet, maybe xft? or wcf? or who knows.

Hull:
Add trim tube
Shorten the back 2-2.5"
Dual xmetal scuppers. One out the back and one in the pump area
Stock RN pole until i break it..

Motor:
Will remain my current setup
61x 701 motor
Single 44
East Coast Cycles Head with 34cc Domes
Type 4 Factory pipe (Will add a b Pipe this winter)
JSS electrical components
TDR Waterbox

Im also gonna try to keep accurate count of the exact cost for all materials to see if its actual a cheaper solution than a hull.. We shall see.

Total Cost to Date: $100

Alright here we go. I picked up this squarehull from Paulie P. Funny thing was it used to be mine. IT was the very superjet hull i bought and i was gonna build it but sold it to by a complete SN instead. I then sold it to some guy who did some odd work and painted it and then sold it i guess. It ended up sitting in a yard for who knows how long and thats how i got it.

There was more creatures living in this hull than in the amazon rainforest :ugh2:

So the work begins...

The destruction..

I got up this morning and figured there was no work to be done on my other square cause i had to send out my pipe to factory pipe becuase it broke:banghead::banghead: so i went ahead and tore into this. Desctruction is always fun and made pretty good progress. Next will be to use a heat gun and get all the glue off along with whats left of the top side of the bond rail.

Note: Make sure your sawzall batteries last more than 2 minutes when fully charged. Might be time to buy a new battery.

Total Cost of Project to Date: $100

Bypass the heat gun. I cut a notch in the top deck through to expose the bottom down the edge of the bumper rail. Don't cut through the bottom. Then I use a couple flat pry bars and a hammer. Just wedge the pry bar into the green glue, and fold it over the rail. The glue comes off very easy.

Defoaming never gets any better. Since ive gotten most of the top deck off im taking a break from dealing with this green glue. I got most of the tray defoamed, debugged, deleaf, and just cleaned up.

Tomorrow i HOPE to get the rest of the top deck off and get the bottom deck totally cleaned. Then ill move to shortening the hull.

Anybody got a suggestion on how short i should go? Im 5' 11" and 140lbs. I was thinking maybe 2.5" or 3"

Woot Top deck is off! Everything but the nose, and it really wasnt as hard as i thought it was gonna be. It needs to be cleaned up a little and defoamed. More pics of the defoaming to come.

Cost to Date:
Still $100

I dont know how much you weigh but i weighed myself today in with shorts and a shirt on and weighed 142 pounds so i think i got 5-10 pounds on you :fingersx:

Updates:

Ski is defoamed 99.5% and is just bare now. Im unsure of my next step, but ill do some reading on the other threads and see. I think i may cut out the bulkhead and see how heavy it is. Maybe layup my own, i dont know we shall see?

Current weight as it sits is 59.5 pounds. Jetts was 61.6 pounds and Geeks was 56 pounds so im trying to keep it within reason. I dont know for sure how exact mine is but damn the bottom decks sure are freaking heavy!

Shortened the hull tonight, its fairly easy, but getting things even are a bit harder. Everything should be pretty damn close. Im stoked! :fingersx:

I choose to go with -2.75 for well i dont know. Ill end up moving my footholds forward a wee bit and since i dont have all the power, and extra length off the back will help for sure.

I rode a highroller top deck conversion at Rock N Ride and it was super light and flingable....and cheap to do I imagine. Kingofnothing could tell you more about it.

Ill Pm him.

A couple other options i looked at were:

XFT: Sergio said he could make an 11 pound top deck if i wanted it. Just for Flatwater though. IT would have to way more to take surf and boat wake abuse. So Around 13-15 is what i was thinking.

WCF: About the Same price as XFT but weighing in at a little less than 20lbs but you get the wider tray and new design.

Snowxr?: Wieghs in right at about 20 pounds i believe and is all fiberglass. About half the price of the 2 listed up there.

So im torn between which one. I like the lightness of the XFT, the new design and wider tray of the WCF, and the price of the Snow one. :dunno: Plus for the price of the snow one i could easliy pick up a brand new a/m hood for the price of the xft shipped !
