Keep in mind that you may be an alternate and may be able to fill in for someone that can't make it. Everyone should come anyway to hang out and ride together. There will be some expression sessions for the alternates so they can get some media coverage, exposure as well. JK is doing the best he can on this.
Being an alternate and making a 3000 mile trip? I'd say you put the long distance travellers in so they can make plans, and have local guys that may be the same skill level as the alternates, even though they may be personal friends. Otherwise, no way in hell would i make plans to go 3000 miles just to be an alternate.

Facts.... Westcoast riders (mike, ross, jerry, joe, taylor) all went to your eastcoast (non-competition) event at daytona.
As of now i dont know of many of you guys coming out here for fun no-comp events in the past. Yes Nick and Pete did come out for the oside comp.

i am sorry that so many of you are disappointed with the picks. it is an invite only event with only sixteen riders being selected. there is an alternate list being formed, and there are two east coast riders on that list. i am trying to be as objective as i can. that means picking the best surf riders i possibly can for the event.
the event is limited to insure the best riders, aswell as for permit reasons.

Did anyone take notice of the fact that we still have three open positions????
I'll admit I was a little taken back when I saw the early announcement without the final three.....thought it might cause some issues. But I was also the one nagging Joe yesterday to finalize our decisions soon so anyone who needed to travel could. I haven't had a chance to fully converse with him today so I can only guess he's busting his backside trying to get info out - perhaps we should have waited three more days when we could make full disclosure.
Either way, I have to say I'm sort of disappointed in some of the responses here. While I also pushed for total inclusion of any applicant, it's my understanding the permit only allows 16 competitiors on the water, so unfortunately, the line must be drawn somewhere. The selection committee has been tasked with that thankless/unpopular job - we're doing the best we can and I assure you, the final list is one we're really grappling with.
Regardless, please stay tuned for the final three....and if you really are strong supporters of this sport, you'll step up and support the event regardless of where or if you fall in the line-up.

Hey Joe, Welcome to the site............... I understand what you are saying.......... I personally dont have any stake in this, sure dont want to see it turn into a pissing match here on the X............ But, Appearance says alot.......... that is what it appears to be from many of the members........seems like Favortism................. I would not want to be in your shoes................. There are many good riders over here on the East Coast, but Pete and Nick are by far way above the rest of us........... (Surf Riders), it hard to see why they would not have been picked....... They cannont make plans being on an alternate list.............. I know I would not........

BK, i think you got me wrong. what i was saying was competition or not, you (eastcoasters) should come out for the crazy fun freeriding the whole weekend is going to be filled with. the competition is just a small part.
I understand the frustrations, but I’d encourage everyone to come out, even if your name isn’t on the list. There will be plenty of chances to ride and lots o’ ocean, so come to the party. I agree that the “more the merrier” approach would be cool, but I don’t think the permitting would allow for that. I have nothing to do with the event, that is just my understanding.
It’s going to be a ********ing raging weekend. A bunch of us from Oregon and Idaho are going down, bringing skis and dirtbikes, and riding in the dune race. It’ll be a guaranteed good time. You can be damn sure we’ll have a keg of the northwest’s finest in the towhauler. Some of you Florida surf/MX homies ought to make the pilgrimage too...where else are you going to find a combined event like this?
But I do have to bitch...surf riding skills aside, how the hell did Buffaci get on there?

You CAN however eat my cookies, nibble on my brownies, lick your fingers after enjoying my BBQ...and beat on my ski.....the rules are, you break it, you pay for it, and it runs on Trick 110 or Sunoco 100 with Redline ONLY....so you gotta buy your own fuel.
Which is conveniently located at several suppliers very close by =)
