I hope everyone comes and has a great time at this event. And I am sure we will all have a blast. Joe has worked his ass off to try and make this a great contest and do something good for all of us. This will be a great and fun weekend. So bring all your toys, friends, family and just have fun.

and booze and cookies.

Not my Gig.

That's a slightly unfair statement.....as this is the only US freeride comp this year. It's tough to get to comps, and get numbers under your belt, when the only comp of the year is mostly off limits.

Hell, in the last 3 years, how many surf comps have there even been in the US? Sure, some of the old hands have results and mag shots and foreign competition under their belts....but part of what is stifling this industry is the lack of new blood. There is little to no incentive to up and coming riders.

I'm not saying that your event is where they should have their chance to shine....just making a point.

"Hey ...Newspaper guy....."some dudes are riding at the beach this weekend....send a photographer"" Doesn't cut it.
A fledgling event such as this must rely to some extent upon names. Its Just a matter of fact.

I get your point....and I think you get mine.

While it is difficult to travel to events......Some do. The Foreign guys seem to be able to get here and some Americans have gone abroad......and they are not all vets......
It would be great if there were incentive for all of you......... but at this stage ....many must Create their own incentive....make their own goals....chase a personal glory.

It is an effort to build upon the sport we love..to recapture some of what we hope will be your incentive in the future....
Hopefully this contest will HELP lead to other similar events that all can participate in.

The Contest is only a part of the weekend.

If I may steal a line from Surfer magazine:

From a guy who has been to freerides in the east and west coast this year, seeing the best of the east and west coast riding with their current talent. Pancaker and Slutty would def place higher than more than a few already listed IMO. :woot:

Guys...please be aware that the final list will not be out till Friday.

Also, I have a good complete hull set up that would just need a motor/electronics and drive train to run. And I will offer that up to anyone who wants to make it out. If you come and put your stuff in the hull, it is yours for as long as your are here. And I may even have a motor for it going by then...all you would need is a pump....same deal. I hope that might entice some of the east cast guys. This event will definatley be lacking without you guys.

He/Her Sounds like a "clone of someone" with the commercial type of reply..
hummmm (dont forget to bring your friends !!!)

Again, I gotta ask - why ya gotta be like that?

Ghostwriter (whomever this person is) hit some excellent points. I think the most important thing to point out/remember is this:

Even if you didn't get invited from this exceptionally elite group of applicants/riders (and you ALL are exceptional riders - we had a heck of a time picking), then wouldn't it make a lot more sense to come out and ride in the exhibition portion or just freeride in front of the thousands of spectators who will be camped on the bach at our camp site...and showcase your abilities? This would give the seleciton committee a lot more go on for next year's event, as well as other events.

If you take your toys and stay home, you'll

A) Be cutting your nose off to spite your face....

B) Missing one of the best times with a huge group of friends around....

C) Pass up an opportunity to help grow the much deserved recognition of our sport to the potential new riders in that massive crowd on the beach.

Your call....you can be positive and have a great time, or negative for no good reason.

I would love to come to this event, thinking about it for a couple years now.
Would it be best to camp or hotel.Would like to bring my son.Seeing as how we would have to fly in, I would think hotel would be best.Any pics of event site any where.Any suggestions on hotels that are close. going to suck not having our skis with us.

hey.. don't blame me for anything on this thread.. i said one thing on this thread (my only post on this pismo event) that has a bunch of people asking questions/upset/not fair comments and you guys pick me to start you stuff with.. sheeesh

I got my reservations for pismo at least a month ago.. made offers to alot of guys to use my ski's, draging people and their ski's with me, offers to pick people up from LAX & ONT.. you may or may not know that I was helping.. I am not by anymeans negative about this event.. sure there are things that everyone can see that should be changed for next year but,,, I havn't said a word..

Pick on someone who has..

been out of the loop somewhat. so maybe i missed something, but is ross competing? he's pretty good (sarcastic understatement) and he's local.

just curious. no criticism. hope the event is successful.

i do hope nick gets picked. we live vicariously through him. :cheer:

If my kids were small and I were flying in, I'd opt for the hotel as well. There is a TON of info in the other trhead (I'll go find the link and insert here in a few)...this is also my hometown, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask or PM - happy to help.

I mentioned earlier my ski is available to pimp a recreational ride....I just wanna see folks come out and have a good time.

Here's a rough idea of the site - I'll be getting a map from our partners who are putting on the Oceano Dunes enduro dirt bike race at the same time as this event (this weekend is going to have something for EVERYONE) and will overlay our info on theirs so you'll have a great idea of what to expect...will post that as soon as i get it.

In the meantime - I hope these visuals are helpful,

Lisa
