The Ideal set up for any So Cal riding from Pismo Beach south to the Mexican border is; a 3/2 "surf suit" that has glued and taped seams, what brand is your own opinion. I prefer Oniell. Stay away from a suit made by a "Jet Ski specific" company, they are usually years behind surf suits mfg's designs. Get some 2mm fin socks to wear under your riding shoes. These are available at any reputable surf shop, usually found in the body board section. For Shoes get something high top to give some added support to your ankles. Most prefer Asic wrestling shoes but I just wear high top skater vans or Chuck Taylors. Get some Jet Pilot gloves, they tend to fall apart but they are the best thickness and best all around glove for what we do, and use the gloves in conjunction with hand warmers.
This set up will be ideal for 90% of the early morning surf riding conditions you will encounter in So Cal. Most of the time we try to avoid riding on windy days but when the wind conditions are hard off shore then I keep a Jet Pilot Tour coat on hand that does the trick nicely.
So if your brain is hurting already-Here's the recap;
