close call video!!

I believe that was the tow in ski for that surfer he got caught out and end result... Narrow miss for surfer and one written off red bull tow in ski...

The picss of it on the beqach was not a lot of it left after its battle with the reef and sand...

What he said - the ski was destroyed. For those of you who have never towed-in to big surf like this, what happened there was fairly easy to do under those conditions - the wave simply broke early. The driver has years of experience and actually did the right thing by bailing. Still sucks though - thank god his partner knew what he was doing and took evasive action.

Come out to Maverick's some time and see what we have to play in - it's the only time I've ever truly been scared in a ski....makes this video look like a wading pool.

Mavericks has its silly days no doubt. The risk with Teahupoo is the thickness and power of that barrel. Doesn't look like much compared to the height of some of the waves out there (Jaws, Cortez Bank, Mavericks) but it rolls and rolls and rolls... The volume of water is incredible.

If you go down and get barreled at Teahupoo, you better be strong and have good lungs.

I'd love to sit in the setup one day @ Teahupoo. Wouldn't have the nuts to drop in through.

WOW that is why amatures shouldn't be allowed in the surf. (not that kind of surf) I watched the video before I read all the other comments and while watching the video I thought that was great I couldn't wait till I get to ride in that stuff... But what a panzy he was he bailing. After the comments I have decided that 3 to 4 foot waves would be fine for me I don't need to be a statistic. I really didn't know that it would destroy a ski like that.

How deep was it where the ski went under?

when Teahupoo is like that it sucks up to about 3-6ft deep.

Teahupoo is one of the most dangerous waves in the world. when it gets really big, it sucks up so hard there is barely any transition between wave face and the flats.. it 'boxes' out. and the 6-10ft lip (yes thats right the lip will be thicker then you are tall) throws out onto waist-chest deep SHARP reef.

have a watch of this video.
