Got the engine assembled last night. Everything went smoothly. Crank turned out to be welded, so that was a plus. Assembling the rest of the stuff like electronics and manifolds tonight, then dropping her back in my ski to ride tomorrow.

Don't like the design of my girdle head. May be looking for a different head here soon.

does this mean i can save a drive to pismo and we can ride tomorrow in v-town.....:naughty:

Creative RE Purchasing
Ran my new engine on one successful ride and it was killer.

I picked up one of DangerBoy's new flywheel covers... Looks sick.

I am also in the process of installing a set of kawi style output couplers. Should be ready by my next ride... Droping the weight by .5 lbs and they have a smaller rotating mass, which I should defiantly feel.

Where can I get one of those flywheel covers? How much are they?

Im not exactly sure how you measured your couplers, but I just weighed and compared both sets of couplers a few days ago.

The yamaha OEM cast couplers AND dampener was 1 lbs 10 oz

The BILLET kawi conversion couplers AND dampener was 1 lbs 7 oz.

hardly half a pound. Perhaps yours are milled far lighter, but as for me, I think the widespread claim of everyone feeling a large snappy difference is a bit bogus. The yamaha coupler is roughly 3/4" larger in diameter, and though yes, there will be less centrifugal inertia, it wont be that much as compared to an aluminum flywheel when you are talking about loosing 3lbs on a 7" disk, not 3-4 oz. on a 3" disk. Personally, unless your grenading the yamaha couplers I think its a bit of a waste of $100+ . (i also dont understand the recent hype with the billet timing covers either... but thats another story)

On the bright side it does look hot as :):):):). =] Good build!

#1 the ones he has on his ski are drilled out and lighter than an old umi kawi style coupler..is it going to make a huge difference??..no but it will make somewhat of a differnece

#2 if you ride in the surf hard you will break the stock ones..they are cast junk

#3 the advantage of the billit front cover is that it uses an oring so if you need to remove it you do not have to purchase 20$ gasket each time

hope that cleared it up for you
