crackhead-there are no marks in the middle because there is ALOT of clearance in the middle!!! U know-the combustion part of the dome? LOL

that makes absolutely no difference. if a chunk of metal from the bearings is jumping around in there, it's going to ping the hell out of every single bit of surface area there is. not only that, but it's going to look "gouged", not "cooked" and melted.

Piston broke off and made the ring bounce around (Note the curious absence of marks outside the squish band area):

Screw came off the reed cages and bounced around (again, note the absence of center marks):

still, usually when I've had a needle bearing take a holiday like that, it jabs the hell out of the entire surface of the piston, not just the outer edges.

also, your reasononing for your assumptions weren't on a very "solid" base...lol like I said I've had bearings and cages go and not just d!ck up the outer edges of a dome. I've had a few come out looking like the entire dome was attacked with a pick axe.
